Default I'm still purchasing more HD DVD titles than Blu-Ray

I've been format neutral for about 3 1/2 months now and I still continue to purchase more HD DVDs than blu-rays.

I want to purchase blu-ray titles, especially for the future but the HD DVD sales are just too tempting to pass up. Currently my purchasing average is almost 3 HD DVDs to 1 BD title.

Does anyone else have the same problem I do? Do you want to build up a BD library, but are unable because HD DVD prices are too good to pass up?

I've been format neutral since the PS3 launch in Europe, but with all those great deals out there, these past few months I have also found myself buying a lot more HD DVDs than BDs.

Why do you consider that a 'problem'? I don't, I think it's great to have all that hi-def content at near-SD DVD-level prices. I don't mind having two players in my rack, and I'm not worried about my excellent XE-1 conking out anytime soon. So in short: no worries...

I'm buying lots of cheap hd dvds right now .I'm very disappointed in the stores like bb and future shop. They just aren't bringing in any blu rays except the major releases.
18 new releases listed for tuesday and only 2 appeared in local stores.
Blu ray may end up being an Amazon only distributed product soon.
Very disappointing.

I'm optimistic on that score, myself. If Walmart's reported store-rearrangement is anything to go by, then I would expect the situation to improve over time. Unless we find ourselves sitting here this time next year expressing identical concerns, I'd say despair was premature.

As far as numbers of new HDM releases appearing in stores is concerned, well, obviously stores have to make a call about which ones will sell better than others. Blu-ray is still not mass-market, so they have to be a bit picky - B&M stores only have so much real-estate. And some of these new releases are - to my mind at least - a little obscure for general taste. What I would say is that we are getting (what seems like) an ever-increasing number of new BD releases on a weekly basis, and the build-up of the catalogue is one of the key components in creating a format with mass appeal.

As for buying HD DVDs - I would certainly not see it as a problem. "Make hay while the sun shines" is a good maxim.

Perhaps "problem" was the wrong word to use. What I meant to say was, do others find themselves passing on BD titles because money is being spent on HD DVDs? Personally I am running out of domestic titles to purchase, of course I still have plenty of imports that I want

The thing is, by the time HD DVD died I had already seen most of what I most wanted to see and was out on that format. I bought about ten titles more anyway. Especially those Weinstein titles were a treat at $7-8 a piece.

But I'm done now. I found a buyer for my HD-A1 and it's found a new home now. Bye bye HD DVD!

I still haven't gone through the BDs I bought during the Q4 bogos so no worries there.

Gosh, I haven't bought another HD-DVD in . . oh . . about 10 minutes. Just bought a couple more from one of the nice folks here in these forums.

I want to buy Ocean's 11 and 12 to finish my HD DVD set, but not finding it even on Amazon!!! Tower Video wants >$25 for just 11, and one other place had it for $19.99. Those would be my last HD DVD purchases. Not really interested in Twister...

I'm pretty all loaded up with HDDVD's, maybe a few left (Twister comes to mind). I haven't bought a blu ray in over a month, the prices are outrageous now, no more sales.

The only thing I do now, is I wait until they show up on SIG Electronics (takes a few weeks sometimes for new releases) and purchase the movies there.

Quite a few people have been offering the HD-DVD set for $25 shipped. I snagged one last week. Just start a thread.

I bought my Sony BDP-S301 back in November (Black Friday). I bought my Toshiba HD-D3 a week after Toshiba threw in the towel and Costco was unloading them for $80 WITH Bourne 1 and 2 in the box -- couldn't resist that, specially since a lot of movies I wanted were exclusively red. At the time, you couldn't buy an upconverter for that in Canada.

Since then, I've been buying mostly HDDVD at bargain prices via Amazon, DeepDiscount and Future Shop with the occusional Blu at Wal-Mart or Amazon. Same reasons as everyone else: the price is worth the gamble on how long the Tosh player lasts and Blu prices are just too high at the moment. Most of the HDDVDs I've bought recently were less than the SD versions...

Besides -- its fun looking for (and especially finding) the bargains!

I go an buy cheap hd dvd's and then I find myself buying bd's at the same time. I just can't help myself when it comes to hi def. I'm not worried about hd dvd's as their will always be a way to play them.

I am also spending all my money on HD's - have bought 22 this week alone! There will be plenty of time to buy Blu; not so for my beloved HD-DVD!
