Default Star Wars I upconverted looks awsome!!!

Lord of the Rings (extended cuts) were the best SD DVDs I had ever watched upconverted....however, I just finished watching Star Wars I (the first of the 3 new Star Wars movies)....and it was AMAZING TOO....I would have to rate it as a tie between the two.

Yeah, i've got Ep. III on SD DVD and it looks fantastic for the format.

To be honest it just makes me that more impatient for the bd release knowing how amazing the blu-ray version will look.

Default What Upconversion setting did you use for the PS3?

I tried upconverting Ep IV and it placed black bars on the sides as well as top and bottom. I believe I had it set to "double upconversion"?

No, you were probably playing the original theatrical version which is non-anamorphic.

I thought Episode I looked the worst of the six when upconverted. It had grain during some of the CGI footage and thats just not cool. Now I must say that Episode III was amazing and I was quite surprised by how wonderful the original Trilogy looked. But I thought Episode one looked kinda crappy. Ah well.

I wasn't super-impressed with Episode I either. One older DVD I was surprised to find looked really good was the original Blade film. I was especially impressed because it was a DVD from the 90's.
Believe it or not, I haven't watched any of my other Star Wars DVDs yet in the year since I've bought my PS3 and new HDTV, so I can't compare, but Episode I looked pretty fuzzy and grainy to me. I remember that it was the last one to be shot on film and not HD, though I imagine that alone wouldn't make the picture look worse than the other films. Regardless, I want these on Blu-Ray. And by the way, I'll bet you that all six films will be modified further in some way by the time the Blu-Rays roll around.

The Phantom Menace DVD has horrendous edge enhancement. It's unwatchable on a large screen -- and not just because of Jar Jar.

I will pop it in right now, what did you play it on? PS3 or your HD DVD player?

I would have to agree with those who said Ep 1 looked the worst of all 6 films upconverted. I had me a little bit of a Star Wars marathon a few weeks ago and the second 2 and the originals looked quite good. I was especially surprised with Ep IV since it was the very first. They did a good job remastering it for DVD imo. And although i consider phantom menace my least favorite of the 6, the lightsabor dual is probably one of my favorites from the series. gotta love the double sided sabor. Sounded good too.

I have not watched the new three in awhile but I did watch the orginals not so long ago and they look real good. I'm sure its the same with the new ones. I want a blu ray 6pack
