Default No Cloverfield on any HD disc format?!

Okay, why have paramount not announced this for any format. No HD-DVD, okay - knew that already. No Blu-ray, well wouldn't have bought it but still add to that, No HD Download in any format (no HD on Itunes, XB360, PSN).

The reason I'm a little pissed off (and it's a pretty good one!) is this. I held of watching this, let other stuff take priority (thinking back: beer, hockey, women, and of course other film released at the time). The whole time thinking, 'screw it - if I miss it this week I'll catch it on HD'.

Guess I'll upscale the DVD.

Anyway just glad to know that the format war worked out so well for all those how were preaching about getting all the studios on one side.

I'd think that cloverfield is one of the few movies that won't look much better than even a divx when it comes out in hd.
It was shot with handicams right?

I wouldn't quite call that a handycam

Wasn't there a rumor a while back that said something about it being released on Blu Ray bare bones?

According to IMDb:
Panasonic AG-HSC1U
Panasonic AG-HVX200
Sony CineAlta F23
Thomson VIPER FilmStream Camera

All high quality HD cameras. The VIPER is the same camera that David Fincher used for Zodiac.

Lol.Not quite a handicam for sure but if its sposded to look amateur and grainy then we'll have to see what the hd product looks like.
And yes Fire
Walk with Me really needs to be on hd as well as all twin peaks.

I just saw a trailer for Cloverfield on HD NET ( High Def premium channel )and it did look very impressive. Oh well, maybe we'll get luck and Paramount will surprise us with a blu-ray.

Nope (as specified above). It was just all handheld, is all. I saw this in theaters and it would seriously benefit from a BD release, believe me. Lots of action, lots of elaborate landscapes, lots of effects, and lots and lots of lighting/motion situations that would seriously strain DVD's video compression.

I didn't keep up on the news about this, so the other day I was sad to go to a certain local store (which shall remain nameless because they put stuff out way before the street date) and see that Cloverfield was available on DVD only. On the plus side I guess this means they aren't going to skimp on the eventual Blu-ray after all...and the extras do look interesting. I hope they port over the packaging, too; the DVD has this nifty thing where you have to break an "official seal" in order to open the case. (Because it's a classified recording, get it?)

Was this movie any good? Stupid no HD, I have completely stopped buying DVDs, and only the best movies will be added to my BD collection.

Pity that this movie wasn't considered too Top Secret to show to civilians and burned altogether. Let it be released on BD the day before the apocalypse.

Granted, though I don't dig Cloverfield, there are some other new releases that have yet to be released in an HD format, and some of those tick me off.

It's not Aliens or anything, but it's a solid monster movie told in an unusual way. If the camerawork in The Blair Witch Project made you sick, though, forget it.

I pray this movie never makes it to High Def... it was horrible and 60% (6 of 10) of the people I know who seen it got physically sick from watching it.

I saw this in theatre, anda HD version for video will be better than a DVD version. There are some grainy bits, but even then its limited. There are also lots of 3rd person scenes, I think there was anyway, where we see the monster and other action.
