Amazon's Mondo HDM Promotion
Aspects of this have been posted in various areas of the forum already, but I haven't seen it discussed as a whole:
The country's largest online retailer has unveiled a series of new deals that seem designed to engage both currrent and would-be early adopters. Unprecedented in its scope, the promotion includes five separate sales incentives for next-gen disc supporters.

I wouldthink CC and BB would have to counter Amazons incredible deals. Dont know if they can or will but this is an example of a positive with this format war still going strong. More competition equals more incredible deals for the consumer.

I must be a gimp because I keep trying to buy the 2 POTC movies plus Bond and the discount does not get applied at the Checkout. Any suggestions?

I was having similar issues as well, then I went back and read the details of the deal. You select the player and (for the Xbox 360 add-on deal) select the two movies you get free. It shows a charge all the way through and then a discount is applied automatically by Amazon prior to finallizing the deal.
You have to select the movies in this fashion (check box along with the player) otherwise Amazon will not apply the discount.
As for this deal, it is the one that finally made me jump in and get an HD-DVD player. I will grab a Blu-Ray player once they get down into the $250-$300 range as there are plenty of movies available on BR which I would like. -

I do see what you are saying now. For some reason that link doesn't bring up any sort of special 3 for 2 deals. The others seem to work though.

Looks like that deal is over and done with. Glad I was able to make use of it yesterday while still available. Got 6 HD DVDs for the price of 4 and 3 Blu-rays for the price of 2.
Not only did they give free discs, but they also deducted the 10% HD discount that I've got before deducting the price of the free disc so I saved even more.
Good times.

I tried the 3 for 2 this morning - the page was there with the special, boxes to check, etc., but it didn't discount at the checkout.

I saw this offer last night and did it. It doesn't show the discount until the very end. Just make sure you are adding ones that apply with the offer and you have to go through checkout to the point of confirmation to actually see the discount.

Unfortuanately for any latecomers, the HD-A2's are all gone. The site shows that it is unavailable. I was lucky enough to get my order in last night when it still showed "In stock soon. Order now and get in line." My order shows estimated shipping between 09/26 and 10/10. Hopefully I will get it in time to postmark my rebate form for the additional 5 movies.
Of course, the three movies I chose shipped out today, so I will be able to look at the boxes and dream about how they will look on my new player.

do you guys notice the shipping time from Amazon is like nuts. I chose the free shipping which usually gets to me in about 5 days, but I ordered the 28th and delivery is between sept 11 and sept 17...that is a bit obscene
