Default Netflix says HD DVD, Blu Ray Even - But Tiny

http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingn...nclick_check=1

Quote:
Q: What kind of demand are you seeing for Blu-ray and HD-DVD?

A: We carry all the Blu-ray titles and we carry all the HD-DVD, so we're agnostic. And we think the solution in that market is to have the studios publish on both. . . . (Customer demand) is pretty evenly split between them (but it's) tiny, like a percent or something.

Very interesting. I wonder why the rental numbers aren't the same ratio as the sales numbers. I mean, this is only one rental place, but still, quite interesting.

Good question, but it could be that Blockbuster caused the HD DVD renters to go to Netflix.

If demand for HD content is so tiny, why do I have over 10 movies in HD DVD or Blu-Ray on that top of my queue with "Long Wait" as their status. Some of those movies have been on the top of my queue for well over a month. I've been a netflix user for a long time and I know that some movies are in high demand and they take awhile to get, but HD content is much less available overall.

they probably get only 100 HD copies of a movie vs several thousand of the same title on SD DVD (based on their interpretation of the demand)...

blockbuster still carries HD DVD online and in the stores that already carried it. they simply announced that they won't expand HD DVD to new stores.

my dad has like 20 HD DVDs at the top of his blockbuster online queue that all say in stock and yet none of them ever ship.

maybe shit like that is why hd dvd people would migrate to netflix.

I can't help but wonder if Blockbuster's pro Blu-Ray stance doesn't drive more HD-DVD owners to Netflix. I know a couple of HD-DVD owners who have sworn off Blockbuster.

Demand is high for both formats. I barely ever can rent the good HD films because there is always a long wait. Netflix should have more copies available to everyone instead of saying demand is low.

I completely agree!

This is the 2nd time I have heard Netflix's CEO complain about the small number of HD rentals. Yet I have to wait on average 3 to 4 weeks for poplular new BluRay releases.

Between the wait and the site being down for an entire day last month I am getting less and less tolerant of them.

I dont care how much more HD movies cost than standard. If they want to advertise and tout the fact they offer these movies then do it already!

Oh yeah... that article really pissed me off. I've had Blood Diamond on HD DVD on the top of my queue since the day it came out. It is still listed as "Very Long Wait." Numerous phone calls to them have gotten me nothing except half off for one month. I'm paying for a service and not getting to enjoy it to its full potential.

Not to quote My Cousin Vinny or anything, but "Everything that guy just said... is bullshit.......Thank you."

Same story for Blood Diamond on Blu - I keep moving it down my Q so I'm not wasting time.

Still credit to Netflix, it allows me to have Blu-Ray as first choice, HDDVD as second and dvd as third.

i wonder if hddvd renters are always getting movies bumped from their queue's too?
they may carry all titles, but they certainly dont carry enough to meet the demand from what i hear across the net
