Default does a cover matter to you

I recently completed a trade with a fellow forum member. He neglected to mention that some of his HD DVDs were canadian imports with bi-lingual covers in his post and I did not ask and I assumed since they were domestic titles they were domestic released HD DVDs.

I am just wondering for those who are looking for HD DVDs in this forum,

    1. Does the cover matter? Whether bi lingual or not.
    2. Would you expect the seller or trader to specify the cover is bi lingual or not or is it caveat emptor and up to the buyer to ask this in advance.

let me know what you think.

What's more important than the cover is the content. Some Canadian releases are inferior to the American releases, so you might well be getting a bad version compared to what you think you are getting.

I don't watch the cover of the disc or case when I'm watching the movie. And I only buy movies to watch them. Soooo.....

I think that, if what IceNine said is -not- true, and the content happens to be the same; Caveat Emptor. He sold what he represented to you. I think worrying about what it says on the cover of one of the dozens, hundreds, or thousands of flicks you own is too over the top - but that's my take on it.

Indeed, but it is annoying to have things damaged. I like to have all my stuff stay in perfect condition, but I tend to forget about the damaged artwork when it is out of sight. With this said, I still hate the "eco" cases for damaging my artwork.

Think of the bilingualism as a good thing because it makes the version you bought 'goll durn exotic'.

This is what I'm thinking. As long as the actual Cover and/or case isn't damaged I would be more worried about he quality of the disc. I DO think that the guy should've been up front and state that they were the Canadian version of the film, but you also could've asked about it.

Only the Alliances BDs might have a inferior version. Any non-Alliance title will have the exact same content.

Only Alliance. Everything else is the EXACT same. Well, except for the first Harry Potter. We got the RIGHT version. Americans got the bastardized version.

Everything I've ever read and experienced is that the bi-lingual Canadian HD-DVDs have identical discs to their USA counterparts. The only difference is the cover.

I have purchased bi-lingual covered Canadian HD-DVDs in US retail stores such as Fry's, so the seller might not even have known that his movies are Canadian imports.

i sold my hd dvds and moved to blu ray but....bi lingual covers dont matter to me. i have quite a few canadian imports and the extra language doesnt bother me at all....now what bothers me are crappy looking covers.....i usually just buy custom covers off a guy i met on here...makes the collection look way better (although i do keep the original covers as well in a spare drawer just in case)

Ya afcourse covers are matters for me because It does make me like the cover a bit more because “they prepare to close in” part perfectly matches the “time is running out” idea that the hourglass on the cover expresses.

I'm picky about covers. Usually the picture though. Not languages. For example, check out the cover for Zack & Miri Make A Porno from Germany. Check out that big bush on Liz.

As a collector, yes, the cover matters. Often times, I prefer the UK or Canadian cover art to the U.S. cover art. In a few cases, I liked the U.K. edition so much more, I actually bought it on ebay. It's an OCD thing, I suppose. But I think most of us here are at least a little OCD!

I have actually bought international discs for the sole reason of the differences in covers. I have several imported Japanese laserdiscs, and a couple of imported HD-DVDs. I also have probably five European DVDs (German and French) that I picked up while living over there. The differences in covers are actually kind of fun for me.

As far as HD-DVD is concerned, what was great about the format was that they were region free. You can import a disc from anywhere in the world and play it.

I say, mark the international discs up as a couriosity, and only complain if it doesn't have an English track, or if the English track on an international release is lossy when the US version is lossless.

If you are trading Blu-Rays, though, yell and scream if the forum member sells you a disc that is not Region A encoded.
