Report: Nintendo NX to release by July 2016Nintendo in March announced its plan of releasing Nintendo NX in 2016 and has started visiting its supply chain partners recently. The orders are expected to be finalized in February or March 2016 and mass production will start in May or June 2016, while the console's official launch may take place around July, the sources said.
Nintendo reportedly is looking to ship 20 million Nintendo NX in the first year. The shipment volume of Wii U is estimated at two million units in 2015, according to Digitimes Research.
Component suppliers such as Foxconn Technology, Macronix, PixArt Imaging, Coxon Precise Industrial, Nishoku Technology, Delta Electronics, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentech, are also expected to land orders from Nintendo for the new console, the sources added.
What do you guys think? Can Nintendo win the "gamer" back? Better specs than PS4/XB1? An new "gimmick" that we haven't thought of? Maybe it's mobile based and inexpensive?DarkRedRain (XBL, PSN, Steam)

I'd hope any gimmick would should be ostracized. For the first time, I'm out (at least at launch) if not.
The wiiU screen controller is a novelty which was cool for a few applications but I would rather have had that money in extra hardware.
Perhaps Nintendo learned a good lesson but 3rd party support will be tough to win back.

Pretty quick to put the Wii U to bed. They'll need to -really- rethink their approach, customer base, and marketing if they're wanting different results this go around. I'm definitely in for a 1080 core version of Zelda.Home Theater: Panasonic PT-ae4000u, 110" Carada Brilliant White Screen, PS4

Loved by Snes, N64 and Gamecube. Not so much after that.
Their portables still dominate.Keep Physical Media Alive, Just say NO to digital "ownership"

I highly doubt this is a regular console to replace the Wii U. Given Japan, it seems more likely to be a mobile device - the successor to the DS and 3DS line.
Nintendo is still dead to me. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I wonder if they will ever make an "easily upgradeable" type console. Since the main draw behind consoles is the simplicity, and they've done similar things in the past.
I could see them having a slot on the side for adding more RAM in the future, or for possibly being able to swap in a new graphics card somewhere almost like a cartridge. If they did this though, the old games would still have to run on the old hardware. It would just have to auto-detect the new add-ons, and optimize based on that.
But sure you think "why not just get a PC?" I would still say if they made it simple enough to upgrade, there could be some draw to that. Then again, we don't really want this:
