Default PS2 titles revamped for PS3? Maybe.

Seeing as it is apparently so easy to do, I cant help but feel that this is going to happen. Sucks for huge PS2 library owners but TOTALLY ROCKS for the rest of us I think. More icing for that momentum cake. ( I would add an, "eat it" but thats for another forum)

Backward compatibility has been an issue that both Sony and the PlayStation 3 have faced since the console’s inception. However, when the God of War Collection was announced for the PlayStation 3, many saw it as the emergence of a solution to the problem. What may surprise some is the low cost of such a solution.

The mere concept of PlayStation 2 titles remastered on the PlayStation 3 with additional content has given rise to some great possibilities. Coupled with the potential is that fact that according to Santa Monica Studio’s very own director of product development, John Hight, the development time was surprisingly short and successful.

“It [development] lasted 15 weeks and we went into manufacturing 2 days ahead of schedule with no issues.”

For developers in the industry who produced PlayStation 2 games, the quick production time and low resource cost required for a port to the PlayStation 3 looks very enticing. The success of the God of War Collection may pave the way for other PS2 classics making their way to the PS3.

The God of War Collection is set to release on November 17, 2009 at a budget friendly price of $39.99.

I've no doubt this GOW collection is a test of sorts and I do fully expect to see more of this, although I wonder how many titles have strong enough demand to do this with.

All I need this for is Gow, FFX and FFXII and Ico + Shadows of the Colossus. Heck if they want to do Persona 3 and 4, be my guest too.

A big Kratos eye-gouge to you 'people' who didn't mention Twisted Metal 1 and 2.

I'm an idiot. Nevermind.

I still want them, though...even if they were for the PS1.

Bah.

Ah yes MGS... At least MGS3 and I would be happy. Didn't care much for 2.

An Ico twin pack for sure. And anything coupled with FFX and it's a first day buy for me.

Perhaps. I was thinking along the lines of what they did for GOW 1 and 2, in regards to redoing the graphics and etc a bit to make them a little more HD friendly. I'm not sure if those PS1 titles on the network got any sort of graphical remake.

Probably just a case of nostalgia, anyways. They both probably suck after playing this gen for the last few years. I mean, it's not like there is a really great story or anything involved in those titles. It's just a bunch of driving and shoot-an. But goddamn, were they fun.

Shadow of the Colossus. The single-most painfully in need of a face-lift game.

MGS3: S would be good in wide-screen/HD, but I've played that game enough times. Time to let it go.

Ah ok, I misinterpreted your comment about them being on ps1. Yeah the PSN version are untouched originals.

And they were definitely a blast.
