Hope it fixes all the crap from ME. If so, it'll finally be a platinum and not copper.(I feel game reviews should use a rating of metallic luster).

This reminded me of a song I like...

Quote:
Copper, let us take you to a furnace where we'll break you, fire's so big and
pretty, you could cry,
as a buckle, you could ask me what was wrong with me before -
did I need the silver to be suitable?

Copper - you'll never be gold.

Copper, I have a use for you, it's easy work and it suits you,
dazzled dirty beauty, you must know
Copper is a conductor and makes for decent cooking,
dazzled by your beauty still, you know,
plated or anodized, you even fool a layman's eyes,
presentable though you might be, it's unwise to try to fight me.

Copper - you'll never be gold. - Shellac
Anyway, I still need to actually play Mass Effect. The most I've done was watch it being played. I'm sure it's a solid silver/gold effort...but no platinum.

I wanted to like it, but ME is a solid Copper. Its main story is ok, and the missions of the main story are varied and fun, but that's about 8 hours of play at most(and I did all the side quests btw), but the side quests are just boring. It's the same variation of everything....Go here, explore this, go into this warehouse(which all look the exact same, but not only looks, but exact same layout also)...kill/retrieve X. And all of that is while you are rolling around in the Mako(which is shit to control btw). Side quests would've been bearable if you could upgrade the Mako, but nope it's the same thing throughout the entirety of the game. It took me 26 hours to do everything, and like I said, only 8 hours was the real story. I suggest that if you play the game, to not do the side quests, or at least keep them minimal.

And , stacked up against KOTOR, well it just doesn't compare. KOTOR is without a doubt, my fave RPG of last gen, and I'd put Jade Empire above this thing also. It's good, but it isn't as good as the reviews led me to believe. It's int he same grouping as Assassin's Creed. Good, but horribly flawed.

The Mako sucked balls. Half the time I found it more fun to get out and complete the missions on foot (which took a long ass time).

I suppose Blade's assessment is not too far off from the truth. But I will say that the feel and style of everything (the story, the environments, the music) was so spectacular that it pushed the game into gold territory for me. Plus, the basic gameplay was fairly solid, and the dialog was always fun (much better than KOTOR, at that).

It's definitely better than Jade Empire and is one of my favorite games this gen, but it's definitely a bit overrated by the critics.

I thought Mass Effect was over rated about 20 hours in, then the plot started unfolding more and everything came to light. I was pretty blown away, which for me makes it excellent and not over rated.

Plus I can't get enough of the sound track, I like just walking around the citadel with the "Blade Runner" twitter playing. It's relaxing.

I'd put it at 85. A B+, not an A-.

You could always just link him to the smackdown conversation between you and 15 other people about this.
