Well, if the update killed my PS3 I won't know till tonight. I did the update and checked the option to shut down after the update. I'm hoping it will power back up...

I updated last night & selected the new photo viewer. You have to download another software to use it.

Why wouldn't they just include it in the update? I decided to do it some other time because I wanted to play.

Anyone downloaded the software yet? How is it?

Me too. I was pissed when I found out I had to download more stuff. I can't get my PS3 to connect my wireless network, so I have to download stuff to USB, walk downstairs, hook it up...

It's not like the update was small. I thought for sure the photo software would be included and not just some teaser icon! So lame....

They are probably trying to not use up HD space for people that don't plan on using the feature.

and guaranteed people would be pissed that the application would be taking up their precious space if they didn't want to use it.

I love the attitudes though.. thanks for the extra feature.. dang you for making me choose to download and install this though.
Thanks for the added functionality to the base machine, but screw you for getting me to download it.

You can uninstall the applications can't you? So why get me all hyped up for it and then not actually include it in the firmware update?

not that I know of, plus it would make the download and install that much slower for all the people that it takes too long already!

Don't know why it wasn't just downloaded and installed waiting to be used - but then again, I have a 250 gig with over a 100 gigs of open space, so maybe I'm not the customer that would appreciate the "option". Still, the additional install only took a few moments.

I tried it. It's going to take some getting used to.
    • The overview is neat and looks cool, but I don't quite find it functional/intuitive.
    • I don't care for the weird music playing in the background that comes with the application.
    • Creating playlists isn't as simple as it could be - but it's a game system, not a computer.
    • And, so far, I don't see much incentive for using this over what was already available. You could always start a slideshow while playing music.
    • Of course, with this application you can put picture frames, etc. and create playlist with music attached.
I haven't spent a whole lot of time, but first impressions are - it's a nifty application. It's a very nice addition for those who enjoy using their PS3 as a media hub (especially those who don't have a computer). And don't forget it's a FREE addition.

Final verdict - it won't beat what your computer can do - but it will sure beat the hell out of what your other game consoles can do.

Because that is a negative option, and a no no when it comes to consumer goods. You cant give something to someone without them asking for it.

Thanks for the info. I will be installing the app later today. I like using my PS3 to show pictures to friends & family. It looks really nice on a 40" instead of 19" monitor.

I updated the firmware a few nights ago, and haven't had any problems. The only reason why I new about the update is because it wouldn't allow me to play COD WAW online till the update was done.
I had read this on the 2.5 update" New for 2.52: The playback quality of some PLAYSTATION®3 format software has been improved."
I don't know what on though.
