Default IGN Infinite Undiscovery Review

Quote:
7.5 Presentation
The story is engaging and while it does rely on many standards, there are some unique elements that help it stand out. Mysterious lack of voice dialogue in 20% of cut-scenes boggles the mind.

7.0 Graphics
There are moments when Infinite Undiscovery looks really good. In fact, you can really appreciate the detail when the framerate slows to a crawl. The character design is forgettable.

7.0 Sound
No Japanese voice option and average American voices will leave many unhappy. The score is one of the bright spots.

7.5 Gameplay
The real-time combat system is simple and enjoyable, but the Connect Attacks don't work well and there are far too many characters to manage for an RPG this short.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
For an RPG, this is a pretty brief experience. Doing everything may take you 35 hours, but the side quests are often so boring, it's a struggle to do it all.

7.1
Decent OVERALL

I was thinking atleast an 8

Tri-Ace is meh now. They started out w/ a couple greats and are now very hit or miss. This is looking like to be a miss, sad because the previews I saw made it look to be an awesome game.

Disappointing, but not suprising. Here's hoping Last Remenant picks up the slack.

To be fair, Squenix as a publisher hasn't exactly shown a really stellar track record. Even their own internal products have been pretty unpredictable lately, so it's not a gigantic surprise, really.

7.1 is good enough for me. Considering how LO and Blue Dragon were unfairly reviewed and IMO Too Human as well, I consider Reviewers to be too critical and blind to an important factor - fun - .

But here's an important quote from IGN

Quote:
This isn't a game marred with horrendous bugs or unplayable combat. And it's not boring. It's just misguided.
So it's fun, but it's got a few questionable decisions. It's still fun. And IGN criticized the fact that you micromanage characters... I like that about RPGs...

In the end we should wait for more reviews. Disgaea III got a metacritic of 79. Does that mean it's not good? Come on... some low reviews and some high ones. All this means is that some might enjoy it, others won't.

90+ only tells me that it should appeal to everyone.

I think Square still puts out pretty solid games, Enix on the other hand as pretty spotty record, with some big titles, and a lot of medicore / mid range titles. A lot of people just lump then in together after the merger expecting Square's level of quality in everything they put out, sadly this is far from the truth these days.

It seems like they've gone much more corporate and money hungry as well.

Famitsu has apparently given this a 34/40 which = 85%

That's actually respectable. They gave Tales of Vesperia a B+ which is 83% on Metacritic.

B translates to 75%. That's solid for a JRPG.

Smackdown is in the other forum you frequent, not this one FYI.
