Default PS3 upgrade hard drive question

Hello,
Newbie here so please let me know if this is okay to post in this forum.

I am thinking of uprgading the hardrive in my playstation 3. From what I read, I need a 2.5'' SATA drive.
Can i take out the hard drive inside my 320gb Simpletech portable hard drive and put it in the PS3? Is the drive in the portable unit a SATA drive?

thanks

What do you mean by 'portable' hard drive?

Do you mean a USB external drive? If so then you can just plug that into the PS3 via a USB port.

check the box...if it says 2.5" SATA on it then you are fine. just remember to have another external drive there to back up your saved games and stuff before you start the process.

yes, it is a portable USB external drive. I was going to open the enclosure and take the drive out and use it to replace the PS3 internal drive.

Regarding using a portable drive via the PS3 USB port, does the portable drive also have to be SATA. Also, does it have to be FAT32?

thanks

320gb 2.5" SATA drives haven't been around for long and cost more than your USB drive so I imagine its a 3.5" drive in there not a 2.5" because the 3.5"'s are much cheaper.

If you just plug it in it will work.

Sorry I forgot to add that 'yes' it does have to be formatted to FAT32. The one I got was already FAT32.

This might help you if yours isnt;
