Sony lose exclusive rights to Final Fantasy?

I just read that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to Xbox 360. I'm thrilled that it's coming out on both platforms. But I was under the impression that Square Enix had an agreement to only make Final Fantasy games for the Playstation consoles or handhelds. Should we expect to see the Final Fantasy Chain continue on the Xbox for years to come?

This is some pretty old E3 news.... Anyway, I guess the short answer is sony has no such exclusive rights.

Yeah... Sony never had exclusive rights. See: FFXI on 360, FFCC on Gamecube, FF remakes on DS, FFVII was on PC too, etc. Square develops FF for whatever platform it chooses.

And this gen it chose to give it's crowning jewel to Sony's competitor as well.

This isn't smackdown though so wtf are we doing here?

Its good business for them to spread out into multiple consoles especially in areas outside Japan. They know if they make it...people will buy it. More money for them.

It's the first day i've used this site. I'm glad I have nice people like yourself to help answer my questions.

cant say i blame square enix for the decision, id rather play it on my 360 and get achievements then on my ps3 and get uhh....trophies. but thats just me. HOWEVER it would behoove them to remember who came to their rescue when they lost all that money making the spirits within movie....just throwing that out there.

Yeah um, Square has released FFXI on the 360, a lot of FF titles on Nintendo handhelds and consoles, so they've never been exclusive really save for the PS era. (Not PS2). That said, this is the first main installment to be released on two consoles as opposed to one.
