    Default SRPG help!

So, I've decided that I like SRPG's, but I'm incredibly bad at them. I bought Jeanne D'arc and I've literally died/failed every mission in the game. I died twice in the first mission and I've died every battle since then. Now I'm stuck in a battle where I can't beat no matter what. I've tried everything I can think of, Now I'm resorting to online guides and forum help.

I seriously suck at this. How do you guys play such games? I'm good a chess, not great, but I can beat the computer in some games, but geez, WTF.

    Any Advice?

As far as general advice goes for SRPGs, or turn-based RPGs or whatever you want to call them... it really boils down to two basic principles.

    Placement & Opportunity.

Placement is probably the most important one, because this means your forces are in the right place at the right time. That means having an understanding of how terrain affects a particular game, understanding the movement of the opposition and being able to capitalize on these things.

Which leads us to opportunity. Opportunity is knowing when and where to strike. You either have to know how to seize good luck on the battlefield when it hits, ie, enemy with a particular weakness to one of your forces gets conveniently within striking range by sheer good luck, or else create the opportunities that you need to effectively fight, ie, escorting your long range attackers to an ideal location where they can lay down some serious hurt on the enemy.

There's always a slight element of luck involved in any battle, but the important things are to know what you're trying to do in a particular battle (aside from the generic, "I want to win") and knowing how to go about doing it. That's good general advice for almost any game involving military forces battling each other, whether we're talking RTS, SRPG or turn-based strategy game.

J'eane D'arc is a hard one IMO. But there are things you can do.

    1.) Overlevel.
2.) Gear up your people adequetley.
3.) Need at least one healer.
    4.) Attack from rear/sides
5.) Setup combo's from behind. Use one to attack and get the golden circle on the opposite side, then attack from that side. You can attack anyone from that side, for instance if it's an archer, and attack another character if that on is almost dead.
    6.) Save often.

The bracelets allow you to twink your main character a bit, but all the characters can heal. Initially, I would make the red haired chick the healer. Buy a healer gem and stack it with +int and an attack spell like fireball or lightning. Later on you can add more.

The key to J'eane is remembering the objective, and to always keep moving towards it. It's a turn limit game, so the pressure is on to keep moving and attacking since you can't afford not to. Later on you'll get characters to replace most the guys you find that have bracelets, so just worry about the first 3 you start with, at least for awhile.

    Good luck!

Is there an SRPG I should start with or just keep working with Jeanne D'arc and I'll get good. I think I'm gonna pick up either FF Tactics or Disgaea as well (PSP games).

I finally beat that part with your advice, but man was it tough. Thanks for the advice. I had them come to me and I had my tough person risk it by drawing them in.

Not a single person on my squad could die and I had to get to the end of the map to escape before 12 phases. I had completed it in 11 phases.

I'm starting to grasp it and the more I understand the cooler these games are getting. I wonder if there's any multi-player SRPG's

    Thanks

Avoid FFT if you're having trouble with Jeanne, it's even more complex. Disgaea isn't too bad, you can always overlevel, but it can be kind of puzzle game'ish at times as far as working with geosquares go.
