Where's REZ??? Oh this is a multiplatform list.

Prototype does look sick. Saw some footage of it on X-play the other night. The game looks awesome!

Prototype is not the first 7.1 game.
Pretty much all Sony first party games are Linear PCM 7.1.

Actually I was referring to the Neural THX 7.1 standard that's coming, but changes will be made to the article to make that more clear.

360 and PC is multiplatform.

I am going to have to endorse the BioShock. Best surround sound I've experienced. The water is always dripping everywhere.

Question

So how are we supposed to get 7.1 out of the 360?

Disagree with the entire list. I would have chosen:

1. Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) - The world's first console game with uncompressed 7.1 LCPM sound, and what a difference it makes! I remember standing next to a jeep and spinning in a circle just to hear the engine circle around the soundfield.

2. REZ HD (XBox 360) - Featuring completely remastered audio remixed in 5.1, REZ HD is the only game to feature surround vibration. Connect up to 4 controllers and they'll pulse in sync with the sound effects. Shoot 4 enemies simulaneously and each explosion vibrates a different controller. A genius reimagining of the original Trance Vibrator controller made even better.

3. Super Stardust HD (PS3) - Another lossless 7.1 soundtrack, this one featuring the deepest, most satisfying explosions ever heard in a shooter. The repetitive music (typical of a small downloadable game) was initially a strike, but the game has since been upgraded to support custom soundtracks. Extremely nice and a must-hear for any classic arcade game fans.

4. NBA 2K7 (PS3) - Yet another lossless 7.1 PS3 game and the one with the most active and aggressive 7.1 I've ever heard. Sometimes it is difficult to hear the announcers over the roar of the crowd; that's just awesome. Incredibly immersive and sadly not approached by the more restrained mix in 2K8.

I would definitely not put Rock Band on the list because, great though it is, I leave surround turned off on the game. The delay and crowd noise on the rears helps create the illusion of a concert, but they throw off the timing of just about everyone who tries the game.

I also narrowly disqualified GTA4 because, although it supports 5.1 with either rear or side speakers, it doesn't support 7.1 with both. Huh?

Great list natiahs.

Have you played Uncharted: Drake's Fortune? The audio is stunning from the sound effects to the top notch voice acting and the musical score.

Plus it has several different surround sound options for the user to manually choose.

Even if only choosing multi-plat games, the author could throw in a few honorable mentions to some exclusive titles.

Question about the audio in Rock Band for the XBox 360....

Why does this game not bitstream the audio via optical? This is the only XBox 360 game that I have in which the Dolby Digital light on my receiver does not light up. The receiver only highlights the front two speakers too but I know that all 5.1 channels are working disretely because you can tell the difference between channels.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes because it saves all of my data so my profile would have to be loaded. I wonder if there is something in the game options where I have to select dolby digital via optical cable?

I will never play Guitar Queero, but I should think that in a game where you need to input in precise sync with the audio, uncompressed stereo into DPL2 is what you would want, not the laggy AC-3.

To add to the list of games already mentioned, I do beleive Warhawk is 7.1 LPCM as well.
