Default Sony gets patent to interrupt gameplay for ads.

Obviously filing a patent doesn't automatically mean it's going to be used, but the fact that someone simply has a patent for something like this is a bit scary.

Sony has filed a patent that would introduce in-game ads in a whole new way. First discovered by an eagle-eyed NeoGAF member, the application was posted last year. The patent describes an ad delivery service that would actually interrupt gameplay to display an advertisement. The process would show a warning message indicating that gameplay would be suspended. Once the game is paused, it would show an advertisement. Once finished, the game would rewind "at least a portion of the interactive content," so that you can undo that horrible gaming blunder caused by the abrupt interruption of your gameplay session.

One thing they do now, I noticed, is they have these platform wars, like "Xbox is better than Playstation." That's nerdy to me. What the fuck is the matter with you?

If Sony did that, I would never own a Sony console again. Between rumors of the next gen and what we have now, Wii U might be my only next gen console.

If they did this and had any modicum of success, count on MS doing something similar. At that point Nintendo probably would be the only safe haven. For a time, at least.

Well yeah Sony and MS seem willing to copy each other up to some point, and I'm not sure what that point is, but Nintendo seems to have dug their feet in and said "Never, not us."

For me, it's clearly meant for a FTP game, or the 1 hour trials with PsN plus. Thats how i can see it ever being logically used.

Yeah I can ever only see that working in a free to play or demo type process

I'm totally unafraid because I've never been bothered by a little system content highlighting.

Agree with Badger. IF they only incorporate this with free demos/PSN content I couldn't care less, but if this crap pops up in the middle of whatever Killzone/Halo game I"m playing...I"m officially going back to strictly retro gaming.

Some consider free demos to be advertisements.. so.. pause your ad to show you an ad.. that’s kind of strange!

Ha, I couldn't help it. I still get a chuckle every time I think of or see the phrase "highlighting system content"

    It "co-leads" with them.
