'Black Ops II' Day-One Preorders are Ten Times That of 'Black Ops' on Amazon
Love them or not, this is why yearly installments of games will never go away.

MW3 sales initially started greater than Black Ops, but it seems it didn’t keep pace. Overall, I think BO2 sales will show a continued decline on consoles, but still sell a ton. PC sales might be up, due to new DX11 support.

I don't understand why people make and keep pre-orders. I definitely understand the pre-order a week before release so you get whatever content for free, but handing someone your money for 5-6 months, interest free, doesn't make any sense to me. Even on games with low popularity, you can almost always easily find a copy on release day - so it's not like pre-order serve the same reservation function they did back in the cartridge days.

on amazon there is no payment until it ships, so you're not really giving them anything other than your word

Looks like the amazon thing makes a lot of sense because it involves no cash. But then, if this was the case in most preorder setups, the whole "OMG COD2 PREORDERS WAY UP!!!!" type news becomes hugely unimpressive and meaningless.
However, I'm envisioning people walking into game stops and bestbuys and putting down cash on the counter etc. For the people doing that, I have a business proposition. It'll be called Badger's Best Preorders. Everyone just send me your money, and I'll ensure you get the best preorder bonus on any game you purchase, and if "omgz millions are preordering" then I'll live off the free interest and never have to work a day in my life lolCurrently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

Amazon can go screw - I can preorder a movie a year in advance and because I chose to not pay the $2.98 shipping or be a prime member, I might not see the new release even shipped for two weeks after street date. I'm just saying that preordering that far in advance should mean something.

People endlessly complain over these annual installments, but if I'm ever making millions of dollars and satisfying the majority of people, I don't foresee myself holding back because of an irritated minority.
When you see how big their sales are, it's hard to hold it against them. -
