Well. It is kind of stupid to buy devices that 500% more than they're worth in labour and material.
But I sure wasn't hating on Apple this time. I might not agree with what they do, but their marketing sure is ingenious. They could (in some ways, they may already do) sell scraps of metal for the price of an ounce of gold.
That's not an opinion but a fact. No matter how you paint it, things like a one-button mouse are severely handicapping and overly unergonomic.Your point is lost in needless aggression that only serves to stroke your ego. Any point you make about their products being oversimplified or overpriced is immediately made invalid by the insults you are slinging and the attitude that your opinion is better or more correct than mine. If you want to make a point, try doing it without insulting people. Maybe then we can have an actual conversation.PSN/XBL: BLINX1234 -

Sigh. Okay, I get what you are saying, and I agree. I am a technology nut, not a hardcore gamer. Here is the thing, the XBox 360 came out in, what, 2005, and the PS3 in late 2006, right? So, when the WiiU comes out, the XBox 360 will be 7 years old, the PS3 will be 6 years old. It doesn't really matter that they have better Hardware, the WiiU is something NEW. It will sell like crazy, and my point is that a $300 launch price is a justifiable launch price.
Now, the Xbox 3 and PS4 it sounds like are not going to be out until 2013, and while they may be leaps and bounds beyond the WiiU, they are not going to have a NEW system on the market (unless they surprise us in the next couple of months) to compete with Nintendo, and when the new systems come out, I am willing to bet they are going to be in the $400-$600 price range again.
Whether you want the WiiU or not is irrelevant. This thing will sell like hotcakes, and $300 is a fair LAUNCH price. I guarantee you that families with young kids will probably be their primary audience. Have you seen how kids have taken to the IPad and Android tablets? This will sell very well, and if they have a new Mario or Zelda game at (or shortly after) launch, this thing will be HOT! -

I bought an iPhone because it's the best smartphone on the market and an iPad because it's the best tablet on the market (both IMO), not because as clever marketing or Steve Jobs influence.
Not that this was the point, people are are spending lots of money, let's not inject gadget bias hostility into the conversation.Last edited by michealo; 04-12-2012 at 11:48 AM.

I was really just looking for your opinion actually. I'm in the market for a tablet myself and I wanted to know why you think the iPad trumps the competition.

If you have an iPhone, universal apps and iTunes just makes sense.
IOS always seems to get popular apps/games first (words with friends, instagram, draw something, etc).
Scrolling on any android phone or tablet seemed jerky to me compared to IOS device, ram is rarely a problem as background apps that are ended do no take long to restart.
Expectations of "console" type games should be low on any tablet, for obvious reasons.
Not that iOS doesn't have drawbacks or limitations, not being able to quick reply to texts without jailbreaking is nonsense.
My brother has an asus transformer tablet, the interface is pretty slick and it has a very nice dock accessory but I run out of compliments after that.
I would say try out both, hopefully competition leads to lower prices and/or innovation. -

All reports so far are the WiiU will have similar or better hardware (it'll depend on the custom processor IBM is making for them) then the current gen consoles. eitherway, $300 for a launch isn't a bad price at all. the same price as the 360 core at launch without the hassle of sacrificing features for price.

I agree with Michaelo. The android tablets have some advantages. I'm just soured on android in general from my experience with smart phones... updates that take forever to get released, annoying freezes & glitches, etc. There was no way I was getting an android tablet. My experiences with apple products have been mostly positive, so I went with the new ipad and have been enjoying it quite a bit for nearly a month now. No regrets on my purchase, but if there were some decent Windows 8 tablets out, I would have considered one of those.

I think the answer is pretty obvious once you just play with both for a few minutes. It just feels and works smoother right away. Without going into the features.
Plus unlike with other devices, iPads are actually cheaper than the competitors at a similar feature set. It must make them very very mad.Receiver: Denon 3808CI / Remote: Logitech Harmony 1

Yeah, I'm not sure how long Ninty can go on without catering to the big games on home consoles. I think all it's going to take is someone to integrate their console for use with any type of smartphone or tablet and their gimmick is done. Tech wise, they're starting to appear very behind the times, and their products don't seem to inspire confidence. I could be misjudging the situation, as I did with Wii, but I don't think they can pull that off again.
Either that or completely go with the flow with phones and either make their own version of an iPhone (probably a bad idea, dunno) or just become a game developer (most profitable). The thing is if they go the hardware route, they need to bring something that's intrinsically new and Nintendo that isn't just copying the iPhone or Android phones. Sony pretty much needs to do the same thing with the Vita but their redesigns keep harkening back to the old handheld schemes and not the newer obviously more intuitive smartphones. The nerd is a tirelessly predictable creature whom the promise of boobies is like a bacon sandwich to a starving wolf. - Yahtzee
