Game Recommendation?

I'm new to video games (PS3), and I'm looking for a game like Arkham City, which I loved.

I guess I want a game with missions (main and side) and relatively simple controls. I picked up the first Assassin's Creed, but I haven't really gotten into it. I find the controls awkward at best.

Anyone have suggestions?

The first assassins creed is not that great but if you are interested in that story i would highly recommend assassins creed 2 and the sequels. The gameplay in 2 is much improved and its a lot more fun overall.

If you are into the open world/mission bases type games i would also recommend the saints row series, just cause 2, or even the mass effect series. Its hard to recommend games like arkham city because there arent a lot of games like it, its pretty unique. Im sure there are some that i am forgetting. most 3rd person, open world type games are shooters and not brawlers.

Have you played skyrim? Different flavor - but definitely main and side missions. It was last year's game of the year, and you will get great bang for your buck. The storyline can be finished in about 20-30 hours, but most people finish it around the 40-60 hour mark because they're just out enjoying the world so much and doing various odd jobs.

I wandered around quite a bit doing various side missions, finally decided to hammer through the story, and finished at around 40-50 hours. Recently I picked the game back up to go do more side missions, and I'm now near 90 hours lol. This game just has endless fun things to do, and proper side missions with mini story arcs.
