gamestop sold me a used dfgt as new!
So the box they gave me looked a little old. No big deal. Then I notice a white seal with the gs logo on the box over the main flap to close the box. I specifically asked the employee if the wheel was new. He said yes its jist been there for a while.
So when I get home to unbox the wheel, I notice the power cord just sitting in the box with no cord tie, not even in its own box. I pull the wheel out and the cord was just stuffed in the plastic bag with no tie. It was the same with the pedals. I also noticed the instruction booklets bag has a seal thats partially torn. Im pretty suspicious at this point.
So im now playing the game just messing around. Things seem fine until I start from a dead stop and none of my cars accelerate faster than a dodge omni until 1st gear is almost maxed out. Somethings up. I youtube videos of people unboxing their wheel and not 1 was packed like mine was. Upon closer inspection I found residue from the original clear seal still on the box.
Way to forever lose a customer Gamestop. Im going to return it tomorrow and buy it elsewhere. Thats the ultimate in shady practice. Somone probably returned it because of the acceleration problem and they just boxed it up to sell it again. -

I wish someone would slap a massive lawsuit on that company for selling things as "new" when they've opened the box period. I know a good number of people on this site work, or have worked, for gamestop. Screw you - if the box has been opened AT ALL - it is a used product. If the original seal was ever touched other than simply setting the box down, it's used. Screw game stop. Their practices are WRONG
I refuse to buy a game if the seal has been altered because I only buy new games. I don't accept the excuse that they just took the disc out for display purposes. That's a bullshit excuse and likely a lie in many cases.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

Really? If someone works for, or used to work for Gamestop, screw them?
Well I have had some bad experiences at Best Buy, so let's add every employee who works and used to work there. Screw you if you work or used to work at Best Buy. Let's not forget to add walmart. Target has been pretty good, but there was that one time, so Target employees (former too) you are also screwed. -

As a former Manager/DM of EB/Gamestop (as well as Best Buy)....I will say this....Even I don't shop at Gamestop anymore. That should tell you something. The company has gone way downhill ever since the merger as far as customer service and what their priorities are. Having left the company soon after the merger I can tell you that their focus shifted from customer service and hiring the best people they can to just hiring anyone and damn the high shrink and turnaround on their people. Shrink went from extremely low amounts to unheard of numbers and corporate was totally fine with it. Since they were paying their people less overall (new hires) it didn't matter to them. In the past they pretty much had a stable team of managers that you could count on to be in the district for years and could help them grow. Now, most stores are lucky to keep the same manager for a year before they are either fired or moved to cover another store that had a manager fired. I still have friends who are DM's and even a regional so I get the current news from them as well. Most of them are pretty fed up and want to leave but it's kind of tough right now.
There's a hell of a lot more I know and maybe as time goes on I will remember it all and get it out there lol. -

Had a similar experience years ago with a game back before I was plugged into the gaming culture on the web and knew how bad they are. Game had some light scratches on it but it was sold to me as new. Thankfully I had no trouble with it, but yeah - fuck GameStop.
Now, they are just a place where I go dump games I've finished and don't want to try and sell online. If I can trade in a bunch of games I bought in bargain bins and get enough trade value to pick up a couple of used titles, fine. But past that, they don't get any business from me. It's pretty much all Amazon and the Amazon Marketplace at this point given the convenience and savings. -

Im just hoping for a smooth return experience this afternoon. I would like to think the employees didnt know it was used, but after seeing their seal on it as opposed to the clear one that comes from logitech, Im very doubtful.

Most likely it was either a return that a customer said " I didn't use it" and they just put their little seal on it thinking it was still new but the seal was broken (sometimes they do come new with the seals broke or ripped up, they usually aren't always good) or they used it as a demo for some game event they held and put it back in the box as new. Either way that sucks.
I wouldn't expect you would run into any problems returning it. -

I have had similar experiences at Best Buy and Walmart with ellectronics.....you open the box and it has very obviously been used by somebody before. I think a lot of stores have a habbit of putting returns back on the shelf if they are returned without an obvious fault description just to see if the next person to buy it returns it also.
In that situation I always take it back regardless of if I find a fault on it or not.....If I am paying for something new then it needs to be unopened or who knows what state it's in....I'm not going to wait a month to find out there was something wrong I hadn't noticed when I cant return it easily.PSN : DaveS1138

Usually they are supposed to but "Open box" or "Returned Item" on the box and offer a discount. Which some people have no problem with buying those items. But putting it back on the shelf, as new, is pathetic and should never be allowed. I'd always return it saying it was used.

I just thought it was funny how the cords were just thrown around. I was thinking "wow they are cocky with this product to not even pack it properly. It must be pretty good". Youtube proved me wrong on the cockyness.

They really must be used to this happening, because the lady just said "fair enough" not even one question about why I thought it was used or anything. Effing shady.

In the context of what I was saying, my point (admittedly made a bit hastily) was a 'screw you' to those who further and support the practice. I've actually been to a game stop when they tried to sell me an unsealed game as new, and I refused it. The guy tried to defend the practice as "protecting the customers by checking inside the box to see if everything is in order." That's total BS.
But no, my statement isn't a "screw you" simply for having held a retail job at a place like gamestop.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

Make sure the wheel is legitimately not working like new. Bring up the GT5 game HUD and hit the gas and brake all the way. The white and red icons should go to max, so 100%. If one of them doesn't then the pedals are screwed up. I'd return it and get your money back. Go to a Best Buy, Walmart, or other big chain store, they sometimes have them laying around or just get it from some reputable online store.
Also note that at first most people aren't better with a wheel right away. It sometimes takes some getting used to. Seeing that the cars aren't accelerating like they should I'm guessing it's the accelerator pedal that is messed up.
If you have a PC you can install some Logitech profiler app and see the full range of both gas and brake.Jose Mourinho, AVB & PDC fanboy - FORCA PORTO!

I get why folk hate Gamestop, and I was pretty pissed when they took out the digital versions of Deus Ex, but you're comment about the screw you just rubbed me the wrong way. So if I took it the wrong way, sorry.
I'm not going to lie to everybody and say I never shop at Gamestop. I do because I actually like the staff at the one near me. And I have had the instances where they try to sell me the open game as new. I decline to buy when ever that happens. But I haven't had that happen in over a year.
