So I watched Expendable 2 last night.

    Sigh...
    Spoiler:
I actually really liked it and feel like the dumbness was way overplayed by people. Maybe it's because I'd lowered my expectations but I didn't think it was near as bad as some make it sound. The dialogue was generally pretty bad (especially the one-liners) but that's rather par for the course. I think the first was a great love letter to 80's action movies and the way I heard 2 talked about it sounded more like parody but I don't think it went that far.

And holy shit was chuck Norris out classed in this. I mean, you don't come to something like this for great acting but he was just terrible. When Dolph Lundgren's acting looks good next to you, you done fucked up, son. Speaking of Dolph, I can't help but think the whole reveal of him being super smart was supposed to be a little meta and was a nod do Dolph himself.

Bad points would be Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, and Van Damme being just about pointless in the movie. Van Damme was pretty great when he was there, at least.

Oh, and boo to hardly any Li. Did like the implied friendship between he and Gunner, though.

    Spoiler:
My theory on why Li was in it so little is that then there would of been 1 Asian too many. So if Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan or Chow Yun Fat ever show up in any sequels, there might not be any Li at all.

I rather liked Dolph in the first Expendables though, I was glad they didn't kill him off.

I also didn't mind Hemsworth or Chuck in this, Hemsworth was killed off so quickly it didn't matter his dialog was so bad, and Norris has always been wooden as an oak in everything he has ever done, so no surprise there. But the lonewolf music every time he showed up was hilarious.

I had a shit eating grin the whole time in the theater and it was no different when I popped in the bluray. I would never say it was the best movie of the year, but it was the most entertaining flick I have seen this year.
    Spoiler:
    Sorry Avengers

Agreed about the Asian thing, can't give them too much power. Next you know they'll want equal pay and roles in the workplace.

And I have to be truthful, I've never really seen Norris act in anything serious. Never saw any of his 80's movies or Walker: Texas Ranger so how bad he is was a surprise for me.

Another great reason to hate Greece. Yay!

    http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/11/28/im...o-handle/#null

The remaining EU military forces should go forward and gangbang those suckers. Then throw them out of the EU and gangbang them some more until they agree to pay 10 million euros in gold bars as kind of compensation, so that ARMA 4 may be an even better game than it's predecessors.

    This ain't Iran (yet), goddamnit!

    Spoiler:
The reason I would say it felt like parody was because the movie was much more self aware (this is undeniable), not necessarily because it was that dumb (it is a dumb action flick though). Jet Li wasn't in the movie much because I think he was busy and didn't seem to have his heart in being in this one, so he did the one scene and called it a day. Kickass fight scene he had though.

Everything Gunner told about his life story is directly from Dolph's experience. He really did fall in love with Grace Jones and became a bouncer and all that

Li's dialogue is the only dudes I enjoyed. Schwarzenegger was okay, Norris was terrible and the whole "final scene" dialogue with Van Damme drew the line for me. Rated: 50lb's of dog shit from the Ultimate Warrior's ass.

Let's just put it this way being self aware made it less fun for me. Then they'd try and jump shark into something semi serious then back to self aware stiq. Just felt like it was a mess. Better of just re-running Commando with Arnold feeding a deer.

I liked the way Van Damme played that final fight, it was weird but then so was his character.

And I do agree a bit about the tonal shifts creating a bit of a disconnect.

Did anyone else find it weird how Church was just instantly buddy buddy with Barney when he showed up near the climax?

I guess the best way I can explain my enjoyment of it is that I was expecting Commando and it was nowhere near that bad. That's mot really meant as a response to your comment, Jacob, just the way I feel and I've been trying to pin it down.

Hey i'm the last guy I'd think would hate the movie, well I didn't hate it but for an all star cast like that it fell flat on its face. Plus I don't think Van Damme did the splits once.

    Bullshit.
