Microsoft Rumored to be Teaming with Sony and Vizio for a Kinect TV
A TV set with solid motion controls could be a boon, but Microsoft's choice of partners raise an eyebrow.

Finally, now I can change the channel by flailing like crazy just as I aways wanted too.

Imagine this coupled with 3D TVs only and you see how much the average consumer might find this interesting, especially in changing the channel with their hands.
I've mentioned this idea before and the potential I could see it having.
I'll even go so far as to say I wouldn't be surprised if the Kinect version of the dashboard is already doing a 3D signal, if it's possible for the 360 itself to do it. If not now, the next Xbox will. It only makes sense for the Kinect to work in tandem with 3D.HD DVD, the best in extras!

the remote control made it so people didn't have to walk up to the TV anymore, why would they want to start waving their arms instead instead of pushing a button?
adding kinect to 3D isn't much of a leap.
jumping around in front of the TV is one thing, doing it while wearing 3D glasses is another. -

I can see why they might think it's useful if you have all these apps built into your TV and you don't know which one has the content you want. If you could just say "TV, search, Charlie Sheen" and it would search all the indexes of all the apps and return you all relevant content, some people might find that useful. Just like that Kinect commercial.
People like us come to the entertainment system with a plan. We're going to watch a movie on streaming because someone told us about it on the forum, or we have a new game that just arrived in the mail from Amazon, or we DVR-ed something last night and now we have time to watch it. But there are plenty of people out there who never have a plan when they sit down. For them, I can see the voice recognition side of Kinect being useful. The motion sensing seems useless though.Newly converted PC elitist jerk. -

just watched this episode last week

i had to shut off voice commands in halo:CE anniversary for obvious reasons.
it certainly could be useful, i just don't see the practicality in it yet. -

It all hangs on how easy voice searching is. If it's easier than trying to type on a funky remote with a slide out QWERTY keyboard, I can see the appeal.

I very highly doubt Sony is going with this deal - think about it... Ps3 & eyetoy, why would they help Microsoft with their Kinect & Xbox?

Considering most tv's now have multiple "apps", motioning through them seems like a natural fit. Although the voice commands are more of a reason for this union.
Well first off you never lose your arms unlike a remote. With kinect built into the tv itself, its a remote you'll NEVER lose down in the sofa cushion or have one of the children destroy.the remote control made it so people didn't have to walk up to the TV anymore, why would they want to start waving their arms instead instead of pushing a button?

Yup, the final draw was when my gamma and brightness levels were being changed even though I never spoke about either. It's nifty to a point I guess, but that was taking it too far. It was bad enough that I'd throw a grenade out of nowhere for no reason, but when it starts changing my display settings, that's where I draw the line. =p
