iD's creative director says Rage SP campaign will be ~15 hours:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Tim...FPS,12530.html
RAGE may be similar to Fallout 3, offering a lengthy baseline campaign with additional quests to double the length of gameplay.
id Software's Tim Willits, creative director for the upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter RAGE, was recently interviewed in the latest issue of the US Official Xbox Magazine. Out of the entire interview, one particular detail has raised a red flag across the gaming community: the amount of time it takes to complete the single-player campaign. For some, the news may be extremely disappointing.
While we already know that RAGE will ship for the console on two DVDs (and presumably on one Blu-ray for the PS3), it's assumed that the game's massive environment and the fact it needs more than one disc would indicate that the single-player portion would be at least just as massive. But according to Willits, the campaign will only take 15 hours to complete.
For some gamers, that may be long enough. Others may disagree given the massive environment and the physical space it requires. Willits made a hint to this factor, indicating that the nature of Rage's post-apocalyptic open world should provide several times that. Bethesda's Fallout 3 is actually very similar, offering roughly a 20-hour single-player campaign without taking on all available side quests.
RAGE is slated to arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC on September 13. The game will also supposedly be left open-ended, leaving id room to develop a sequel after DOOM 4 hits retail shelvesIntel i5 2500k (@4.7Ghz) + XFX Radeon 7970 3GB RAM! + 16GB DDR3 RAM (STEAM/Origin: Nealon_Greene)

Rage will be difficult to mod:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/id-...m-3,12625.html
According to creative director Tim Willits, building levels from scratch using the provided toolset will be even more difficult than what was seen in 2004's id Tech 4. But the news really shouldn't be a surprise, as Willits previously warned of the modding difficulties back in 2008, explaining that it's due to the engine's megatexture system. Unlike previous engines where smaller texture maps were individually loaded when needed, id Tech 5 stores texture data for levels as one huge map that's streamed into the environment.
Still, modding tools will be provided within the game-- modders merely pull down the console and type 'id Studio' into the dash. "Building levels from scratch is more difficult but I can foresee somebody modding up [one of Rage’s hub towns like] Wellspring and adding different characters and giving them different voiceovers," he said. "Then you’ll have a mission and load up the layer of that level that you need to go to. So you’ll probably see more stuff like that."Intel i5 2500k (@4.7Ghz) + XFX Radeon 7970 3GB RAM! + 16GB DDR3 RAM (STEAM/Origin: Nealon_Greene)

Well, I was super interested back in the first showcase. However, I still see Id has a hard time doing interactive scenarios. The physical gameplay is always well done. It's always smooth. It's the areas that surround that tend to be dated and clunky.
The game "waving at you" and "asking for help" seemed like a dead robot trying to find your heat signature. It was very lifeless. The A.I. is very, very scripted and feels that way. It's like COD1 up in that bitch.
I hope the car racing segments are awesome. I love Mad Max and can't wait to live out my desires to shotgun some dudes face while driving. -

Id software may be coming to the end of development on their open(ish) world shooter Rage, but tech-god and Id software co-founder John Carmack is already planning to iterate on the success of their game with Rage 2. Speaking to PC Gamer at the E3 press conference, John explained how happy he was with the shops, exporation and driving in Rage, and how Id plan to iterate on them in Rage 2.
While we have corridor shooter maps in Rage, there’s much more to it. It has all of the driving and the exploration and the towns that come in,” says Carmack. “It doesn’t detract from the shooting at all. It can still be an incredibly fast, guns blazing action shooter, but when you’re taking a break from that you can kit yourself out with extra stuff. All of the towns, driving and exploration have turned out to be very beneficial to the game. I’m very excited for where we’ll go with this in Rage 2.”
Rage was looking spectacular on the show floor today, but you’ll have to wait until Quakecon to see the PC version live. Here’s the latest trailer.

On why it won't be clunky, even with all the weapon selects:
Speaking to PC Gamer behind closed doors at E3 2011, id’s Tim Willits has described how the Id team have resurrected classic PC control systems, rather than limiting the options available to a player for the console controllers. “The PC’s going to be an awesome platform for it. There are a lot of buttons.”
Rage doesn’t follow the trend for letting you only carry two weapons at once. Instead, you can carry all your weapons at all times, and they’re mapped to the traditional number keys. “We were kind of back and forth on whether we keep to four buttons that you map to your favourites,” explained Willits. “But on the PC you’ve got a key for every weapon. And we follow the Half-Life control paradigm, where you can press the button twice to select the weapon.”
I know it’s the smallest thing to get excited about. But isn’t that lovely. The PC version of Rage isn’t available to play at E3; for that, you’ll have to wait until QuakeCon.
