It's cool for like a week (coming from the man who paid 150 for COD: MW2), and you look at those goggles, and you're like....man.....shouldn't have paid for this.

But the companies can usually get me, hook, line, and sinker.

Its the hype. At least with franchise-type games, the crap won't ever be too dated, LOL.

Well, I've already got the game preordered, but nothing in the CE addition is of much interest to me, certainly not $50 of interest. I'm pretty cheap, so about the only thing that actually have a significant impact on the playing experience. Extra in game content, or a Japanese language track, or the like.

Speaking of Civ 5, I recently realized there's no games coming out I really have my eye on this month or August, but at the end of September, three games I've already preordered all come out within a week of each other. Why does that always seem to happen?

I dunno, so far I generally forego special or collection editions because I'm simply not interested in extra stuff or decorations. The only exception to this I'm going to make is the PS3 special edition of Dead Space 2, and only then because it has the Wii game ported to HD. I'm not interested in figures or art books, but an extra game? Okay, I'll take that.

I'll pay extra for content, steelbook, or if I really like the company and I want to support them.

Agreed. It would take a lot to compel me to pay that much for one game - because I don't really like the junk that they include

I hear ya. I'm going to make a choice between StarCraft II and Civ 5. There's only so much time in the day I can actually dedicate/want to dedicate to video gaming.

I never buy the CE. But I do admit to holding the Batarang edition of Arkham Asylum for a good 5 minutes at Best Buy before purchasing the regular version.

Yeah, collectors editions are getting too pricey these days. I always liked it when they had the limited or collector's editions in a steelbook case for $10 extra with just a small art book, behind the scenes footage, and maybe some multiplayer skin or weapon.

I'm getting tired of all these big boxes and cases and all kinds of stuff I don't need. A good example is the Alien vs Predator Hunter Edition. That tiny facehugger was a bit ridiculous. Same thing with the Halo cat helmet from Halo 3's legendary box.

Another thing that annoys me about limited editions is that on places like Amazon, it's that they'll offer those 10 to 20 savings vouchers for only the standard edition of most games. So it makes it even harder to justify a limited edition version when you compare the price of 40 bucks for the regular edition and 80-100 for the limited/collectors edition.
