    Hilarious.

anyway - not sure if I will buy this just yet or not. There like 2 or 3 games I want to get during the Black Friday deals, so I'm not sure if I'll have extra funds for this.
It's a joke. I'm not bothered by reviews, and neither is Troy, and we both know that. When it comes down to it, they're numbers assigned by other people. I'll judge it when I play the game for myself.

Yeah, reviews certainly are not as expected so far. It's early, with only 11 reviews - but i think 11 is probably enough to be representative - and history holds that scores tend to usually only fall from the point of about 10-20 reviews. If this game ends up in the lower 80's - it will be interesting to see how Sony and PD respond. That's still a "good" game - but that's a massive embarrassment for them.

From what I'm reading, this whole thing smells STRONGLY of mismanagement.

Still really looking forward to my copy arriving and playing this evening - but certainly less so after hearing more and more that the standard cars seem handicapped. Still I reserve judgment, and am excited - but the reviews alone don't look very promising. It's looking likely that you're going to be eating some crow during your month off Dave

    3 months off.

Hmmmm. What to do with all that time. If only there were some massive game coming out I could sink all that time into

Oh I'm sure you can find something to do with all that time lol. This, however, doesn't look good for Yamauchi.

Reviews so far arent terrible, but I'd say they fall short of anyone's expectations

This is very true. Had GT no heritage, and came out of nowhere, this would have been a game likely that got a lot of attention, and many who'd be looking forward to see how it grows. We're at the point now where PD should be at the peak of what they are doing, and perhaps this will be the case on many of the cars/options, but the disappointments can break the experience, and the mythos.

Whatever your flavour, this could be disappointing. Still good, but disappointing.

    I agree

AND all of this isn't to say that I'm not going to go ahead and still really enjoy the game, and that others here wont love it.

HOWEVER - the bar has never simply been "Oh, well I just hope GT5 is a pretty fun game!" In reality, that's obviously the objective (like with kinect) - but the hype has been much higher than that standard. Reviews do matter for the purposes of this board, just as they do with kinect.

Yes this is largely in response to chip, who was trying hard to get some smackdown jollies going in here over whether reviews still mattered. They, of course, do

I think that having no cockpit view in 800 of your cars is a pretty big deal considering they are touting 1000 cars. Also haviung upscaled gt4 assets in the game is a no no. No way around that. Its not excusable.

There's been reports of flooding in the city of Baltimore. I heard that our Governor is looking at IGN to pay for the damages. It's been cited that a score of 8.5 has caused the people of the city to all cry in sync.

uh, well, I think you have to be careful about that. Inexcusable if they don't look good, but what if these "upscaled" gt4 assets actually look better than other games out there? I have to see for myself what we're really dealing with here. If that fake screenshot posted a week ago or so was what they looked like, then yeah, inexcusable and ridiculous.

Edit - here's a good comparison. I've got no reason to believe this to be fake.

anyone remember the uproar when Forza 3 came out, and the ingame looked nothing like the promo stuff they'd been showing, because they downscaled the graphics for gameplay?
    for remembrance and comparison:

I'm assuming of course that those are indeed Forza 3, but they could be something else, mislabeled I suppose.

Yeah, when the screen shot looks good and the cars at at their highest LOD, that's when you know it's real.

Man, the GT5 picture looks like it was stitched onto the screen. No wonder it got an 8.5. It hurts the eyes!

Why would anyone even post 3rd person views of a racing game that is meant to be played in cockpit view. Is it because 80% of the game in GT5 is 3rd person view?
