Rofl apologism for the shitty car sounds in GT? Joke video??
Even though he used the ferrari F430 as one of his cherry-picked vehicles, that sounded pretty awful. I stopped the video there, no need to allow him to belabor his point.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

I do yes. I playdown in my man cave with a fairly nice surround system for watching my movies on

I have an Onkyo TX-SR605...it's not bad
I think that video does a good job of showing that people do go out of their way to poke fun at the sounds in GT5. The first video is cleary just made up. GT5 doesn't sound anything like as bad as that.
That being said I'm not going to defend the sound in GT5 either.....it's pretty damn poor given the quality of the rest of the game. You can make an argument about what types of sounds you shoud get in 'The real driving simulator'.....for example if you were in a real race car you would be wearing a hemet which would muffle all the sounds.....so should they model the sound based on what you would actually hear......what you should hear if you were in the car but with no helmet.....exagerate it so that is sounds more "Holywood" as some tites do....
I dont know what the answer is but PD got it wrong.....It just doesn't make you feel like you are in a race car doing 120 through the bends
And that's just the engine noise which isn't even the worse cuprit in GT5........the collision sounds (first time I ever heard it playing a demo in Target I looked around wondering what that noise was because it sounded like somebody in the back dropping crates not like two cars bumping together.)......same for the tyre squeal or driving over the rumble strips.......they just dont sound right to me.
I get grief from Cuco for it but when I am racing I tend to be listening to either movies or old Top Gear episodes in the background........I think that says it all about what GT5 sounds like when you are playing......I have the volume just high enough that the engine pitch tells me when to change gear.PSN : DaveS1138

A little bit more information on this years GT Academy compitition....... Yamauchi has apparently said that he wants everybody to be able to enter (hence it's its own download instead of being part of GT5) and that it shoud cater to all skill levels......
Well.....this screenshot shows the first challenge

driving a Nissan Leaf through one corner.......
.............
............
erm.......yeah.........
lets hope challenges 2-5 are a bit more interesting than that because this sounds suspiciously like some discarded licence tests that didn't make it into the final game

The bumping is fine, thats the closest to the real thing I ever heard...as long as its bumping of the outer bodies and not colliding against each other at high speeds. Which in that case you should listen to a whole orchestra of braking things. The rumble strip sound is also fine. I am surprised you found an issue with the latter.
The engine is actually the worse culprit. Its the one thing you hear constantly and gives you information. Its the most important sound in a racing game and PD should have nailed it.
Although I must admit they got a few other things right, such as the wind passing and how the engine echos in the environment when you watch the race as a spectator (listening to how the F1 or the X2010 engines echo in the distance on the Circuit de la Sarthe reminds me of my experience on the Yas Marina Circuit). The surround is very convincing too. But thats evident during replay cameras on certain open tracks. Its not something that adds to the experience while you drive. The cars sound too high pitched which ruins the believability and faithfulness of an actual race

I disagree about the bumping.....I think it sounds very unatural. Its the first thing I ever came across whilst playing the demo for the very first time. An AI car was bumping into the side of my car and I had absolutely no idea what was going on....it didn't make me think something was hitting my car....it made me think something was making a loud noise around me or something was wrong with the TV.....just a horrible sound.
Although as with many other things in GT5 it has been improved since then.
I completely agree about the engine echos and doppler shifts in replays though. I think PD absolutely nailed those.
Speaking of rumble strips......I picked up a buttkicker cheap because the amplifier was dead.....luckily it was a pretty easy fix......man that thing makes the rumble strips awesome......to feel the vibration as you drive over them.....it really adds to the experience. A little disapointed that it doesn't let me feel the engine reving yet but I only just got it working and am still experimenting with settings.....I may just have it set at the wrong level.
Very much recomend them though just for the rumble strips

Well how often do you get your car bumped by another car constantly in real life?

Thats something you dont get occasionally. It is bound to sound awkward when the same exact unpleasant sound is repeated numerous times. And since the AI tries to maintain that route, and the car's in GT5 dont lose control easily when they hit each other like they are supposed to in real life, you basically sometimes get two cars maintaining their course bumping each other because the AI is a stubborn little bastard. Good news at least this isnt as pronounced as it was in previous GT's and cars do lose control much easier.
A girl hit my car at the rear while she was trying to light a cigarette a long time ago. And believe me, when that happened I had absolutely no idea what the fuck happened either. It was not a pleasant sound that you expect to hear more than once. It sounded as if two containers hit each other. -
