Default Ubisoft demands high Assasin's Creed 2 score ??

Quote:
We hear about these situations far too much, where a publisher is accused of attempting to broker a guaranteed favorable review from a press outlet. The latest to face such allegations is Ubisoft, having been named and shamed by German magazine Computer Bild Spiele for demanding a high score for Assassin's Creed 2. SCANDAL!

"Our reviews are tough, but fair. We will not give up our independent scores for the sake of a timely review," explains the magazine in its latest issue. "This holds true for Assassin’s Creed 2. The publisher asked us to guarantee the score 'sehr gut,' otherwise we would not receive a review copy, thus we will publish our review in next month’s issue. We’d be more than glad to give the game a ’sehr gut’, but only if it deserves it."

Sehr Gut is essentially Computer Bild Spiele's version of an A-grade, meaning that Ubisoft was only willing to trade a game copy for an incredibly positive review. Of course, asking an outlet to guarantee something like that before they've played the game is asking them to trade in every ounce of integrity they've worked to build, and if these allegations are true, it's a shame that Ubisoft felt the need to barter against someone's self respect like that.

In any case, Computer Bild Spiele has probably ensured that it won't be getting any more games from Ubisoft. Good for them, and let shame rain down on any writer that actually agreed to such shenanigan

That sucks on Ubisoft's part. Kudos to the reviewer for not rolling over.

Something like this makes me want to boycott the game. I was hoping AC2 would be an improvement over the first one. The developer/publisher trying BS like this is not a good sign for the quality of the game.

They tried the same thing with AC1 and EGM actually. Makes me feel sad for Patrice who happens to be one of the industry's brightest developers.

Ubisoft tricked me with AC1, and PoP. I have no intention of buying another game from them this generation. There games are all overrated.

Haze was their biggest debacle, IMO.

Haze got a poor review though. So no one expected it to be any good. AC1 and PoP are on my short list for worst games of the generation. They are the only 2 games I have played this generation that have scored above 80 that I hated. (although looking at thee review scores they have come down alot from when I bought the games, so this story is totally believable)

The Rainbow series is really good, and Splinter Cell has always been phenominal, except the MP on the last one took a step back.

Although i definatly think last Gen if you can call it that was there best time.

I can't wait for AC2, I really liked the first one! I didn't get around to playing it until earlier this year, and I couldn't put it down. Yeah, the missions got somewhat repetitive, but I enjoyed the story and the graphics and it was alot of fun for what it was. I already have it ordered, and I can't wait!

Sucks that they would do that to the reviewers though. I'm not going to punish the developer though and not buy a good game just because the publisher is being an ass.

The first one was like a 7 out of 10 for me, but the Renaissance period has my interest. I love the whole Medici era.

Thankfull that I canceled AC2.

I disliked AC1, but figured I would give AC2 a shot because of a nice per-order deal.

I came to my senses and simply cancelled it a few weeks ago.

Like the poster above, I absolutely loved the time period this game was taking place in, which was the main reason I wanted to give AC2 a shot.

Splinter cell conviction does look good. I didn't know ubi was doing it... my expectations for the game just went down a peg for it.

I still have a sour taste in my mouth from AC1. I paid $60 for it because it received pretty good reviews, the time period, and the graphics. But I ended up hating it and never finished the game. AC2 no thanks!
