If you haven't noticed, you're the joke and nobody cares about some biased article you found while feverishly fapping over the PS3.

Double blind listening tests tell the tale. I would agree that Dolby Digital can be discerned...Dolby Digital Plus is a much more transparent animal (meaning the audible differences between it and lossless audio have not been shown to be detectable in any scientifically conducted double blind tests). That said, I am not so sure any Xbox games utilize the format, so it's a moot point.

Says the guy whose feverishly and blindly anti-Sony over something that happened about 8 or 9 years ago.

Bullshit, I've given you a host of reasons for my Sony disdain (and you are conveniently only mentioning 1 event to which they contributed) and I'm not creating threads bellowing about it. Don't even attempt to turn this on me.

I can choose to conscientiously avoid Sony if I prefer, and not belittle others who enjoy Sony products...until *they* initiate the belittling.

All I can say is once you've encountered a corp who has run roughshod over 2 things that have brought you great joy (video game icon of the past, and favorite musical artist), you might understand. Forgiveness is not my strong suit.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that if the Dreamcast had to be sacrificed to get us to where we are now, in terms of quality games.... Good ridance.

Sony had a problem back in early production with their PS3 design. They noticed that 2 Cell processors weren't sufficient enough for next-gen gaming, so they went to Nvidia to make the RSX. The way you put it makes it seem as if Sony made a last minute decision about the RSX. I agree with that PS3 can't do 1920x1080 for complex games, but what do you mean about "reduced textures" for 1280x720 games?

I would like to add that if Sony's in-house developers knew PS3's hardware backwards and forwards, we could see quite abit of complex games running at 1920x1080. But this is highly unlikely to happen.

Quote:
XBOX360 had a limited internal (On chip) texture storage that meant complex games like halo3 were rendered onto 1024x600 surfaces and upscaled to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 for display depending on what you have. 1024x600 is not even XGA, let alone FullHD.
Agreed, seeing how X360 has only a 3.5x broader bandwidth than the original Xbox, and 720p pixels require a 3 times broader memory bandwidth. That leaves only 0.5 times headroom which is insufficient for multiple texture lookups by complex shaders.

Quote:
Both these boxes were not true HD game consoles unlike the latest PCs with latest video cards that can easily do 1920x1080p60 for games that run on 1024x600 on the 360.
Eh, it just depending on how you want to use "True/Full HD". As I said earlier, most console games run at 1280x720 natively, with some below and some above said resolution. Now if you wanted Full HD to mean all consoles games were supposed to run at 1920x1080, then yes you are correct. Now, there is quite a difference between PS3 and X360 when doing native 1080p games. Example, PS3 has about 50 games running at the following 1080p rez: 980x1080, 1280x1080, 1440x1080, 1600x1080, and 1920x1080. This is compared to X360's 6 games that run at said resolutions. But this could be due to Sony having 3-4x as many in-house game developers as MS.

Quote:
Of course, compared to wii, these two boxes still look spectacular. The main reason why cross platform games that are ported across wii/360/ps3 all fail miserably on wii is because side by side, as far asphotorealism is concerned, the wii version look like a joke next to either ps3 or 360. There is some justice in there, some pyrhic victory for the 'gigatexel' boxes as 3rd party game writers can't port a game to look as good on wii even if they wanted to.
Agreed, and this has to due with Wii not being directed towards HD gaming, so Nintendo doesn't need a good CPU and GPU combo.

Quote:
My point is that these hd gaming consoles still have to go through a redesign to match current PC 3D performance, so some technology improvements are still needed --- snce 1024x600 is still far from 1920x1080.
Eh, I agree to an extent. PC games in general only have certain console games in rez, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, frames per second, and textures. Console games such as, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, MLB 09: The Show, Killzone 2, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves have PC games beat in many areas, from lighting to animations to audio. Hell, Uncharted 2 has Crysis tied in the textures deparment (in some areas).

You're kidding right?! What about "Jet Set Radio", a great game and it also visually defines the culture of Hip-Hop so well. Space Channel 5 had it's charm. Rez was excellent. Then there's "Segagaga".
Before that you had "Burning Rangers", less so in art but it had good gameplay and it had at least ONE innovative idea. "Nights", which was just fabulous. It was basically the equivalent of the first original video game styled story which reminds one of Disney. "Panzer Dragoon" is another.
Sega has done more to push this industry forward than anyone truly. You can argue it more only on art but I disagree. Sammy castrating Sega has done no gaming fans good.

I guess I just never got the draw of the Dreamcast, and I'm definitely not alone. Furthermore, I do consider gaming to be a legitimate artform and believe it ought to be treated as such. But frankly, even now, having the chance to go play Dreamcast games at will, I have extremely little desire to do so. My consoles are doing more than enough to entertain me.

In it's day, the Dreamcast was a great machine. A big part of why that system is so beloved is because importing Japanese games reached the height of it's popularity with that console. Also, the Dreamcast required all of it's games be at least 480p with AA. But once the Xbox came out a couple of years later, it totally made the Dreamcast look invalid.

In it's day (1999) though, it was an amazing machine if you can appreciate the quirky Japanese cultural that influenced it. When I booted up Soul Reaver for the first time, I had never seen better graphics on a game console. That was the Killzone 2 of it's time for many people.
