Depends on how you mean Demand? They sold a hell of a lot of players, which was a big thing back in the day. Were talking very small amounts that were being fought over and touted as success. Come to think of it ,it is not much different today.

There was demand at that price as most wal-marts, if not all, sold out what they had on hand.
Some thought it would win something, but like many myths believed in the format war (fence sitters, PS3 movie adoption, xbox add ons,lag in software sales until after the holidays, etc)it is not as simple as cheap players, wal-mart had $99 blu players all day long for months and that never got any real traction.

Now essentially $99 xboxes or ps3s will make huge ripples in their markets and push competition further and faster. If only wal-mart does it can be argued it was limited to around 35k sold, probably more in some areas, but it should have the effect of exciting the market place and cause mirrored deals elsewhere, even if they are not as good.

far as wal-mart losing money I'll not lose sleep over it, beside its store credit, that will return to them only really costing them the wholesale amount (on a corporate level). It also has the added benefit of bring in more consumer cash they were not planning to spend at wal-mart

Given that there will probably be long lines to get this deal, I'd bet on the latter.
the bolded part pertains to me. i had no intentions of buying one until i heard of this. ill still buy the multiplat titles on my PS3 cause i refuse to pay for online play. btw, i plan on just borrowing my friends games and was wondering, do i need a hard drive to play mass effect? i.e. is there a mandatory install?

Kind of annoyed. Thought about trying to snag one so I have one that I can actually hook up to my projector, but my Wal-mart only had 2 of them. (And I thought the ads said minimum 10 per store. Apparently, they screwed the pooch on that one).

Amazon has the same deal in 7 minutes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=cs_top_nav_gb27

Well, not exactly the same, it's an Amazon gift card, not a Walmart card

Sold out in 5 minutes, another chance at noon PST.

It's already too late, I just checked the amazon goldbox and they say 100% fulfilled.

either it was a very low supply or it went extraordinarily fast. Literally gone in seconds

Yeah, I have one of them, in my cart - so I snagged one, but I haven't decided to actually purchase it. Thinking of everything I'd have to do to get up to speed is what's holding me back. That and my monstrous ps3 backlog at the moment

I thought it was first come first serve.

I like the amazon deal better than walmarts. But I think a HD is necessary and don't know what games you play but I think you'd be ok with a amazon gift card even if you sell or trade the xbox.

I wish I waited a week to get my xbox, although I think I'll be sending it back because I'm getting an error with the drive. It quits in the middle of the game and says the disc is unreadable (not so, its a brand new copy of cod5) A restart gets it working again. Maybe it's a software update thing that will go away. If it still doing it Monday I might see if I can return it or the very least get the 90 warranty fulfilled.

To my understanding, once you have it in your cart, there is a unit reserved for you to purchase. I know for goldbox deals, it's until the end of the day. For lightning deals, it may be the same. I clicked "add to cart" and got it in my cart and ready for checkout before it hit 100%. It's still sitting there, I'm just fairly sure I don't want it (the arcade at this price). I don't have much extra cash currently, and I would want the hdd, wifi, and live. That's just too much money at this point

Agreed on both counts. However, I think it's doubtful that I could sell the brand new 360 for what it's worth ($199). I'd probably have to discount it to like $150, which would cut in to my amazon giftcard.

I gotcha.
Although they way I'd think about is $250 for $200.

But it is probably better to think of it as cutting in to the gift card if you sell the xbox for less than retail.

Yeah I think im going to have to pass this up. If it were an elite, i'd have a harder time deciding. The added expenses just really pile up for me

Yeah. I don't care about connections cause we have plenty of HDMI cables it is the Hard drive that would get me, damn they are proud of them too. PS3 has it right on this, although wrong on being able to swap them ps3 to ps3.

although I was given the 20 gb I'm using now I know I'll want a bigger HD if I get in to playing the xbox.

Not even remotely as useful as getting a gift card from either Amazon or Walmart.
