Default XBL party chat to become a little less awesome

Seems the party chat feature is going to change a bit in regards to mp games.

Do you like to use the party chat option on your Xbox 360? Well, if you do, you may soon find yourself being forced out of using that option. Microsoft appears to be offering developers the option to negate the private chat option the Xbox 360 offers. Currently, players have the option of forming a private chat with players, but that will soon change.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will force players to decide whether or not they’ll play the game and join the game chat, or choose to stay in a private chat and not play in the multiplayer game. With titles like Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War, and many other online based multiplayer titles, the private chat feature became a way of telling other players of enemy locations after being killed.

Such a feature shouldn’t detract from the overall online experience much, but there will surely be some gamers who won’t like the type of feature being implemented. With some gamers only using the private chat to talk to friends while playing different games, this will likely pose a problem for them.
Thoughts?

I don't think it's too bad, but less options simply isn't cool.

Makes sense, if it is causing an unfair advantage...

Yeah, I agree, but its nice to have private communication with just friends.

Seems like cheaters ruin a lot of things for people in general.

Eh, It does suck a little but I think it's needed. Party chat's a great way to avoid hearing amature singers, background arguments and other jackassery but people were really abusing it at times.

The group I usually play with started getting fed up with it in CoD4. We'd be getting killed left tand right and then notice someone on our team is in a party chat witth most of the other team.

True, but you'd assume they'd be able to identify if the friends in party chat are playing the same game. It doesn't make sense to not let me chat with buddies playind MW2 mp if I'm playing a different game.

I had a party of 4 once, and went into ranked mythic slayer.

One person ended up on the other team, and they all quit.

So we talked to our one friend and I got the 15 kills no death achievement, and the hammer spree achievement.

Yum.

I guess I'm dirty.

Cheating/cheesing is why I am pretty much done with sports games online for a while. EA cant seem to fix any of the issues in their sports games.

If that's what needs to be done to curb cheating, blame the cheaters, not MS or the developers.

But, wouldn't it make more sense to prohibit party chat for players who are both actually playing the same game?

I've also always wondered, conversely, if a player is in a multiplayer team game (like cod) and is in party chat -- doesn't that disadvantage the rest of the people on his team, who are trying to (and might benefit from) communicate with him?

Most people don't seem to want to coordinate strategy with strangers, so it gives the people who do even more of an advantage.

This better still work well with the party system for setting up a team.

It's nice when you go into a game, and just hit one button to "invite party".

I personally think this is absolutely unacceptable.

I'm a decent human being who just wants to play a shooter without the trash talk. Call me crazy, but I hate listening to people who define their self worth based upon their video game performance. If that stings a little, you may want to think long and hard about that sentence.

When Gears 2 came out, I enjoyed the gameplay but was on the verge of taking it back because of the constant douchebaggery pumping into my ears. Then the party system came out and made everything alright. It became fun again.

If cheating is the reason, then can't we develop some kind of system that still allows you to only be heard by your friends (and vice versa) only while still alive? In other words, it only cuts out when dead, but still private?
