If cheating is the reason, then can't we develop some kind of system that still allows you to only be heard by your friends (and vice versa) only while still alive? In other words, it only cuts out when dead, but still private?

I agree with you 100%. When party chat was first put out I never went back to open chat. It cuts the amature singers, people talking to people on the phone off, trash talking all the time people out of the picture. To be honest if this is true it could sway me from even buying mw2.

wow... lot's of people hurt by this. lol...wow. for those upset about having to hear kids yelling and what not.. there's a mute button. it works like a charm. better yet.. you don't want to hear the trash talk.. and if you're playing alone... don't put the mic on. i mute people all the time. it's really not that hard. and.. they stay muted forever.

well it depends on what you guys mean. lot's of decent people in here upset.

are you guys all talking about playing by yourself? ya'll talking about playing on party chat while people are all playing different games? i'll most likely be playing online with COD with lot's of friends at the same time... so we'll take over the room. if anyone's annoying.. mute button time.

I'm getting the PS3 version, so I don't really care since the PS3 doesn't even have party chat. If I were getting the 360 version I would be a little upset considering I'd likely be in chat with buddies who may or may not be playing the game with me.

I think it would be considerably easier to simply remove the ability to witness the battlefield after your death. Then you don't have to worry about cheaters/spotters.

Seriously though the options you presented (muting, not mic'ng up, etc) are typically very easy to do, but the beauty of party chat is that you don't even have to worry about that crap. You just party up with people you know and have a blast. I think it sucks that developers can't just remove the ability to see the battlefield after you are dead instead of neutering such a great feature.
