XBL party chat to become a little less awesome

I don't see why IW couldn't have built their game around this:

As in, no death cam/kill cam. Party system where your friends can't be on the opposite team. ect. I like the party system too much to just not have it. Plus I can't stand some of the people who play these types of games.

When Gears 2 came out, I enjoyed the gameplay but was on the verge of taking it back because of the constant douchebaggery pumping into my ears. Then the party system came out and made everything alright. It became fun again.

If cheating is the reason, then can't we develop some kind of system that still allows you to only be heard by your friends (and vice versa) only while still alive? In other words, it only cuts out when dead, but still private?

but it's so easy to mute them. sooo easy.

hopefully they have some kind of "squad chat" thing. you know how you could make your own little squads on W@W and you're all in blue. maybe they can do something like that or will have something like that, for MW2. meh...

Seems like cheaters ruin a lot of things for people in general.

Seems stupid they keep people in game and allow them to roam around the area (GOW2 I'm talking about you), if they knew full well people could still chat in game. Why disable chat for games because of a few devs lack of foresight, just don't let people still exist and be able to look around in game after they die! Simple as that.

to me, it makes me think about switching my preorder to ps3, the only reason for me to get it on 360 over ps3 was party chat

It's stupid because it's not like people can't setup chat rooms outside of XBL to talk in game. The problem still persists even if they disable party chat - it's totally retarded. They allow a means for people to cheat, yet instead of fixing it, they remove something everyone uses, and still allow those who would cheat, to still cheat. Dumb no?

well that, and that IW caters way harder to the 360 for this game then they do for the PS3. not to mention more people will have it for the 360. i'd advise you to get the definitive version of the game. and everybody knows IW takes care of the 360 version of the game better than the ps3 one. and by that i mean stats and getting maps first and fixing bugs first.

ya, i'm starting to agree with you guys that it's a bit stupid.. but we can still mute people. and like i said maybe and hopefully they'll have some kind of squad chat set up. but i myself like hearing the cries of my opponents as they yell out at us after getting their asses kicked. we'll see what happens.

The thing is mid, they're not fixing the problem, they're ruining party chat for people and still enabling people to cheat if they really want to. Nobody has to use party chat to still talk in game. It's the ghost view that allows people to cheat, not party chat. It's dumb.

the thing for me is that i'm not ultra competitive, i know i'm mediocre as hell at shooters, so to me this isn't taking away a competitive advantage, it's making it lame and if i can only talk to people in game i can do that on ps3

While this doesn't bother me too much, the stated justification is bullshit. The solution to this is to have better in-game party and XBL party integration. COD and every other game won't split parties in ranked matches, so if the game can detect the rare case where someone in your match is also in your XBL party (and not in your in-game party) and boot you out this becomes a non-issue.

If they want to force people to chat with their teammates instead of their friends that's one thing, but spinning this as an anti-cheating measure is pure BS. I've played hundreds of hours of COD and never encountered this issue. The game has a freaking killcam for crying out loud.

Few weeks ago I actually brought this up with some friends when playing online. Thought it was a little bit cheating type while playing search and destroy in COD4. Basically while the remaining buddy was playing in 1st person mode, others who died already would scope the surroundings in 3rd person mode. Even if everyone is looking at 1st person mode the player might miss something that the others looking will notice.

A good decision to eliminate this advantage but I hope they allow different game party chat. Sometimes buddies are playing COD S&D while I'm playing another game alone and we are talking over the chat. Don't want that to cut out. Maybe limit it to the same game you play to prevent cheating and it should be fine in my book.
