I always use free shipping myself, I can wait the extra week or so. I hate how people that have prime say they get "free" 2 day shipping...really...it only cost you $80 a year...so how is it free? Its worth it if you order a ton from them, but you are still paying for shipping, just not in that order, you paid for it all up front.

For me, the prime membership pays for itself within the first 2 months. Even if the $80 covers shipping for the year, I don't pay tax AND Amazon's prices are usually a few dollars less than MSRP. Plus I've gotten over $50 in order credits already this year. It's a huge savings over GameStop or Best Buy.

I take advantage of trial memberships every once and a while.

Exactly. I've got Prime. It's not free 2 day shipping, its inexpensive 2 day shipping. I split it with my fiance and some family, it's relatively cheap and between all of us we definitely get our money's worth. Plus, with Prime, you often get BDs and games on release day. With the FREE shipping you won't see it for weeks. If you are patient, that is a nice virtue, but it's one I don't have

Prime pays for itself in saved sales tax if you order a moderate amount of items throughout the year, not to mention its more than 2 day shipping on new releases. Amazon ups the ante and overnights it for release day delivery at no extra charge. Prime is the shit!

Except for people like me, who have to pay tax because Amazon has a call center in North Dakota...specifically Grand Forks.

That's a bummer...so wait, do you live in ND? I thought they only charged sales tax when you actually were shipping it to the 5 or so states in question; not just because it goes through one of those state's facilities. If the latter is really the case, that sucks, and thank god my proximity to NY state hasn't screwed me over.

Yes, free should be in quotes.

You mean just because it's a call center they charge you tax? That's so lame. I guess that's why they put it in ND instead of a larger state like CA or Texas since charging tax in those states would probably cost them quite a few sales. NY enacted the law that forces merchants to collect tax even if there is no distribution center in the state. If they ever did that in California I guess I'd have no choice but to move.

Edit:Just read the law and it states that if a merchant has a "physical selling presence" in a state then they have to charge tax. So I guess having a call center would constitute a presence (even tho calling in an order isn't even possible anymore with Amazon). I was under the impression that it was only distribution centers in your state that physically sent out packages that caused taxes to be charged.

I always used 2 day shipping anyway because I prefer to have it shipped UPS, so it's saved me a ton of money. Couple that with using an Amazon VISA as my 'debit card' the savings are pretty sweet.

Good news for those who ordered the PS3 CE version of Dragon Age from Amazon, it looks like they will start shipping the copies soon (tomorrow or Monday), my delivery estimate now says November 12th. I got Prime shipping.

I feel like I will never get a PS3 CE copy

The store I would have ordered today just raised the price to the double amount.
