I am not surprised that the Toys R Us in Times Square has units (since that IS where the launce of the thing happened.. they expected 3000+ folks there to buy them so I can only imagine (the possibilities) that they were given a gigantic allotment of them. The Best Buy near my house has the bundles (5-10 of the 4GB and maybe 3-5 of the 250GB) but no sensor only (and havent had any since day of launch or at least not longer than a few hours according to the employees but they said they are getting a SMALL trickle of units in at the time..like 3-4 twice a week)
That being said the store where I routinely found PS3s during the Great shortage of 2010 (TM) had a gigantic stack of 4GB/250GB Kinect units (probably a pallet of each) but only 2 standalone sensors (well 1 now.. I needed another one for the living room 360) so I think they are in shortage in some places (smaller stores more rural locations) and the bigger stores/metropolitan areas seem to have decent stock (although the bundles are clearly more likely to be found)
I have had a blast with mine (and watching the kids play with it..which is why I bought the 2nd one) and it has worked pretty flawlessly for me. Only issue I have really found so far is that Dance Central keeps losing my daughter in the menus as she tends to turn sideways while swiping the menus and she is REALLY skinny (it is actually kinda funny).
The games have been pretty fun so far (although I admit that they are party games for the most part) but you still work up a sweat pretty quick (I played Kinect Sports for an hour or so yesterday (I returned 4 titles I bought at Best Buy on release day and reordered from Amazon when they were BOGO 1/2 off) and I am sore as all hell today (but I am a lazy SOB whose idea of working out is running to the car when it's raining).
So far I am happy with the purchase. Is it earth shattering? Nope not at all but I AM having fun with it and have gotten my wife playing a couple times (and she ABHORS video games) so in that way it is a huge success in my eyes. Would like to try the Video Kinect at some point if anyone here wants to give it a shot just for a few to check quality etc. My GT is in my sig and I think I have most of you on my friends list (well except maria.. she keeps dissing me). Just shoot me a message. I am gone for work the rest of the week but I will be home a few hours tomorrow night and then all weekend I will be on. Just shoot me a message as long as you don't laugh at the GIGANTIC mess in my theatre room (I just cleared out a apartment into that room)
PS that Carl Duty Avatar is friggin priceless.....HD DVD list (updated 5-14-09)

Surely you realize that this response lacks relevance to what Michaelo said. The reason for this is because he talked about the hype mountain of claims for "different gaming" and "new experiences." You claimed "Kinect works well." Formulaic logic dictates that there is a missing link between what he said and your response. That response is ALSO very much what this thread is about: Does Kinect bring "different gaming" and "new experiences."
Unfortunately, perfect 3d tracking as an input method doesn't change the fact that you're still playing dance-in-your living room and sports games, and other Oprah-grade material.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword
