Now that i think about it, the Z06 had a true SMG for paddles? If it did, thats crazy. Im suprised i didnt know. The wonders it would do for downshifting.

I do understand why people who race and car enthusiasts despise the paddles.

EDIT - To be clear, im using the term SMG loosely here. Im sure you know i meant semi-auto but im lazy lol. I wasnt talking about the specific BMW SAT system.
Take a Evo X MR for a spin. The twin clutch auto with paddle shifters is a total blast to drive. Even in auto mode its always in its powerband. Its really a badass car.

Whoa thats scary...

I was actually looking into a Evo since my Civics tranny just today started slipping in the 2nd Gear. The fluid smells cooked too. Sucks.

Well, its a good thing to have more Civics on hand for parts.

If it doesn't have a clutch pedal, then it's a glorified automatic. Paddle shifting may be the future, but I'm not interested. Timing and executing a proper shift is what makes driving a car fun and challenging. There are few things more satisfying in driving than when you execute a perfect heel-toe downshift just before a turn.

Don't worry.. every week when T10 releases new info we'll talk briefly about the new released info and the back to hearing how damage and stickers are dumb and how definitive racing games can't be definitive since we don't see 16 cars on track at the same time

PS only reason why T10 didn't release info last week was because their PR dept pulled back on the info for another date. So I'm guessing there's another good surprise coming out soon.

Or that graphics and physics are not that important... It goes both ways.

Eh, you paint a pretty lopsided picture of the discussion - and will continue to do so; thus the thread lacks substance.

This thread is probably the most ripe with "xbot dismissals" of possibly any other thread on this board.

-An extra disc with content only available via mandatory install isn't a bad thing, it's a GIFT from MS.

-Graphics don't matter (these normally don't anymore, so that's not surprising)

-Sales don't matter. (these almost always do, so seeing this pop up was surprising)

-Reviews are what matter (but only when talking about these racers -- this rule doesn't apply if talking about 2008 and other games/exclusives)

-16 is not better than 8

-Having nascar is stupid

-Posting videos/pictures should not elicit any responses other than "ooh/ahh" even when some parts of them look awful

etc.... Just massive dismissing of everything has made this thread hardly worthwhile.

And thats why some racers and car enthusiasts despise em. SATs, depending on which particular system pretty much does a almost perfect heel-toe (most of the time) when downshifting for you. It automatically determines when to shift for the smoothest clutch engagement.

More precise than a human yes, but it doesnt sit well with me. I feel the car must be driven with someone who knows the car and what its capable of. IMO thats when the greatest driving satisfaction is achieved.

Both Forza and GT have impressive physics, IMO. I'd have to give the historic edge to GT, but Forza is no slouch for being the newer kid on the block and having a smaller budget (not to mention less development time).

Because NFS Shift will be out before, which just so happen's to be on PS3 and 360 so everyone can enjoy it.

I had an Evo 8 MR, but the paddle shift on the Evo X appeal's greatly, as it's so quick.

Previously I had a Fiat Stilo Abarth which had paddle shift, but the system was just too slow.

I think that's fair. I've already given Turn 10 kudos for being on the verge of launching the third installment of a successful franchise and frankly, I hope the game sells like gangbusters.

But come to think of it, perhaps I need to air some laundry on the matter...

It has never been my intention to minimize Forza, however, I am still weary of the disrespect Turn 10 has developed for Polyphony Digital. But it has been my intention to discuss the merits of what they are saying, because what they are claiming is bold. Sega got reemed back in the day over "Blast processing", Sony has been sharply ridiculed for their claims on the capabilities of the PS3, Free Radical got knocked pretty hardcore when they claimed Haze would be "the shooter people think of when they think of PS3".

Both Polyphony Digital and Turn 10 are being given free passes from fanboys. I'd say it boils down to console-loyalty, which is ridiculous. Frankly, the "definitive" racing game of this console generation is something that will mean something different to each person, if you ask me.

My criteria for meeting such a claim is somewhat lofty because I definite "definitive" and "standard" differently as I think of the former term not only raising said "standard" but shattering it, too. Forza 3, to be generation defining as opposed to an upgrade of the current racing standard (be it GT4, GT5P, or Forza 2 or really whatever game you liked the most). The latter term to me is just that.... An upgrade to the current standard. By my definition, I admit I am being somewhat favorable towards GT5, but not due to console loyalty, however, but because of how those hyped terms register with me.

That all being said, at the end of the day, both games may end up falling short, but either game could very well easily overdeliver on whatever promises or hopes that we've heard. We had doubts about KillZone 2 living up to it's hyped visuals, because most of us doubted that the PS3 nor the 360 could deliver such visuals in-engine without framerate issues. I can point to that game and say our expectations have been beaten before and theres no reason to think that Forza and GT can equal their hype, if not blow it away.

All I really care about is which game is better, regardless of hype. Forza could underdeliver and still be better than GT5, and vice-versa. GT5 could overdeliver and still not be as good as Forza 3 and vice-versa. These are in the realm of possibility, but you have guys who do not wish to see the discussion take place, for whatever fanboyish reason.

unless it's just easier to assume i'll think they look awesome.

dont expect logitech wheel support with the 360.
they make too money selling their own "good enough" wheel.
you really think i didn't think to expect criticism from you guys on a 360 game? are you kidding me? where am i getting upset that you guys don't think the game looks good? i don't ever think you guys will think it looks good and drives good and all that. not at all. few of you can even admit that forza 2 right now is the game to have when it comes to racers this gen so far.
