wow. interesting. The lengths that some people go to. No MS in that house, so he checks his "friends" achievements at the library.. wouldn't want an MS website to open at your house... now would you?

This pretty much shows how meaningless Sony's numbers are:

Xbox 360 most popular online console - NPD

The NPD Group has issued its report, Online Gaming 2009, revealing that the Xbox 360 is the most widely used console online.

According to the study, Microsoft's console accounts for 50 per cent of the online home console market and is followed by the Nintendo Wii at 29 per cent, up from 18 per cent the previous year.

"This is a testament to the strength of Xbox 360, both overall, and particularly in the online gaming sphere," commented NPD.

The report showed the PlayStation 2 fall "dramatically" while the PlayStation 3 climbed from fifth to third place. While online gaming for home consoles and portable devices climbed from 19 per cent in 2008 to 25 per cent in 2009, online PC gaming saw a slight decline but remains the most widespread platform.

"Online gaming is enjoyed by a diverse group of players," said Anita Frazier, industry analyst for NPD. "The sheer variety of content and ease of access makes online gaming attractive to a much larger demographic than what we typically see in retail."

The report further revealed that online gamers aged between 13-17 years-old increased from to 22 percent in 2009, while those between 18-34 years-old, as well as those 35-54, decreased slightly.

I'm with cuco33 on this. I also have 3 PSN accounts (EU, US, JAP) and my missus has one too.

I play online on my main EU account but the other 3 are not used. My missus doesn't game online at all. That's 4 accounts in one household and only 1 is used for online games.

I have 1 PSN account and 3 XBL accounts.

Each Xbox 360 console lets you make up to 3 XBL accounts with 1 free month of Gold each, so I made 2 dummy accounts to take advantage of that. I learned this on the Official Xbox forums, so I know I am not the only one. Let's not pretend XBL users don't have multiple accounts.

Both Sony and Microsoft aren't being completely transparent with their numbers.

They said they are only counting gold, and silver members who had bought things in the last 6 months.

No, KTA literally meant, 200 people, out of 17 million.

To think of how many people purposely made live ID's, to look at friends achievements and not play games? I think 200 is a respectable number too.

Sony offers great online experiences for millions and millions and millions of people also.
This is well written. I agree very much with this thinking.

Sony have gave no explaination of what there numbers were made up from.

if MS included all accounts made on xbox live it would be over double that 17 million number.

Like i said just wanting one stat like paying gold members is retarded and only PS3 fanboys feel that is important.

Silver member make up a large portion of the profit base of xbox live with DLC and movies and so on,Make no sense to only give gold member numbers.
Dont you get it? Why wont Microsoft release the number of gold members? How the hell can they spread doubt around about Sonys figures while keeping the most important stat of theirs a secret? How can you think that stat isnt relevant when they are calling another companies stats into question?

Neither Sony nor Microsoft are being transparent with their figures so they should both really STFU until they are.

Each company fudges the numbers, but neither one is fudging them to a point of millions. Its basic business.
I own a 360 and a PS3. I play my 360 more but think Uncharted is the best game of this generation so far.
