is Sony doing better for the gamers?
Nice little blog for Sony
We all know who is winning the console war, but who is putting more effort into their gaming division? We break down the basics in each company’s work efforts, and showed what each company has to deal with in the gaming industry.
Advertising: Everyone knows that Microsoft is doing an excellent job with their advertising campaign. You see their advertisements all over national television, stores, and even in some cases on Mountain Dew (Halo 3). Nintendo does not advertise to quite the extent of Microsoft, but that there really is no need for it. The Wii already has ridiculous sales and there is no need for Nintendo to waste their money on marketing. Everyone already knows what the Wii is about and putting commercials everywhere would be useless. And then comes Sony. We all know that Sony is not on the ball with their marketing but I feel we will begin to see changes this year. We have already seen them advertise to the max with the Winter X-Games and I look for it to continue. Especially with titles like Killzone 2, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, and much more expected this year.
Microsoft: Microsoft currently only has to deal with one platform, the Xbox 360. With one console, they have to work on games for that console as well as bring out firmware updates. They also need to manage the production of the console and keep up with marketing. Now with Microsoft’s games, without a doubt they have amazing titles but do you think they are working to build developers or build companies? No, they are not. What they do is go to a company and tell them they will pay a certain amount of money to make their game exclusive. All this requires is money and all they are doing is buying games that are either going to be multiplatform now or be on that one console. With all this free time on their hands, what is taking so long to fix the Red Ring of Death and the newly discovered E74 hardware issues?
Nintendo: Nintendo currently has to manage two consoles on the market, the DS and the Wii. Nintendo has to produce both platforms and create games (anyone up for another Mario or
Wii ____ title?). Nintendo does not really have to worry about marketing so they save time and money there but they also need to work on the updates for the Wii (which are not even close to the significance of the 360 and PS3 updates). The DS doesn’t even really get updates although they have updated the hardware which led to a sales jump but is not a benefit for people who already purchased one.
Sony: Sony currently has to manage three consoles on the market, the PS2, PSP, and the PS3. Sony has to deal with the production of all three platforms and still manage to put out games for them. True, the PS2 and PSP’s game library have not been updated with solid games for awhile now but the PSP has a few big titles coming soon like Resistance: Retribution, Patapon 2, as well as a few others. On the other hand, Sony is obviously working very hard on their game library with recent releases like Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, and much more. And look what PS3 gamers have to look for this year like Killzone 2, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, and many more. Sony does not do the Microsoft thing where they buy the exclusives, what they do is buy and build first party studios who then develop brand new IPs which are exclusive. This requires much more face to face work with companies and a lot of explaining the hardware since Sony went with a futuristic console. Sony is also working hard on PlayStation Network. True, PlayStation Home is not what Sony said it was going to be, but look how quick it has evolved since the release of the open beta, which has only been out for a month and a half. They released the Video Store during E3 08 and look how that has taken off. The PlayStation Video Store had a larger library than 360’s in three weeks and now it has a much larger library. Now they do have a movie studio and I understand that, but this shows how hard Sony is working to improve the PlayStation Network and keep it free. Lastly, they need to spend time on the firmware updates for the PS3 which add some useless programs and features but they also add significant features that enhance your overall experience while using the console. Not only do they release firmware updates for the PS3, but as well as the PSP. If you look at the PSP when it first launched and then looked at it now, you would realize that it has evolved into something amazing that can be used by everyone every day. Features like the web browser and the “Remote Play” feature (which allows you to interact and control your PS3 anywhere there is Wi-Fi) are just two of the significant features added to the PSP during its life cycle.
So who do you think is working harder this generation? Leave a comment with your thoughts. And please remember we are not talking about which company is selling their platforms better, we are talking about which company is doing better for the gamers.PS3 - 80 gig w/BC

This is hardly an objective article and merely a made up opinion based blog. Please lock.

Yeah, pretty much just a random opinion-based blog piece. I don't mind seeing opinions like this from our own members here, but I think good topics and good discussion on HDD will be terribly diluted if we continue posting random blog opinion pieces. If this were from a more recognized website, I'd have no problem with it. But we can find any opinion under the sun in random blogs, and it seems like we've seen a lot of these threads started here lately with random blog pieces as the focal point.
I say we should stick to recognized sites, unique or particularly newsworthy opinions/articles, or opinions/views from our own members here.

the problem in the past which lead to locked threads isn't a random blog, or even the content, so much as the intent of the author.
is it malicious? no.
is it relatively mature? yes.
can the points be easily defeated? certainly.
tons of threads discussed here are from unheard of sites, which there are obvious reasons for this.
however, i modified the thread title to better reflect contents due to the above. -

My personal feeling is this is a thread using a biased blog as it's source. At no point does the blog use any facts what-so-ever, but rather rampant speculation. There is absolutely no basis for the statement:
"Now with Microsoft’s games, without a doubt they have amazing titles but do you think they are working to build developers or build companies? No, they are not. What they do is go to a company and tell them they will pay a certain amount of money to make their game exclusive. All this requires is money and all they are doing is buying games that are either going to be multiplatform now or be on that one console. With all this free time on their hands, what is taking so long to fix the Red Ring of Death and the newly discovered E74 hardware issues?"
Unless this person works inside MS and knows something we dont? And they're conveniently discounting every single 1st and 2nd party MS title. Also they're speculating about payoffs and so forth, only to anchor the argument with the lame-duck statement of RROD!!!
Anyone who finds this the least bit credible or worthy of a serious discussion obviously only feels that was due to their personal feelings and their agreement with the intent of the article
Now if this thread were about some actual story or FACT, and one of the posters from here responded with the source article the OP is using, THAT would be fine. The posters certainly can make their own opinions on various subjects and facts and stories. This is not a fact, or a story or anything relative. Only a pro-sony fanboy blog and it's merely A)Asking for sony fans to get in a circle and shout YAY! or B)Create flamebait. Now Playing: Final Fantasy XIII-2

ok, another multiple choice quiz.
1. is the OP a well established troll?
2. is he intent on riling the community with the thread?
3. was the smiley brigade unleashed?
4. was anyone called out?
5. was red text for emphasis used?
6. inclusion of multiple animated gifs?
7. did the OP ignore or deflect any rebuttals in order to bait?
8. was a link provided?
9. was additional input or opinion other than the link article provided?
if a majority of the above is true, then thread = lock.
otherwise, feel free to defeat everything in the post, but be prepared for (i can only hope) cohesive and thought provoking responses. -

For the record, my comment was not a plea to the mods to lock the thread, but rather a plea to the members here to stop posting these blog "articles" constantly.
I just don't think we need them. We have more than enough members here who have the identical views/opinions expressed in these articles - so we don't need to rely on a random opinion-based blog piece to express these views for us.

I don't mean to harp on this as I'm not trying to be unreasonable, but I really don't see how anyone could find this thread to have any merit. So in kind:
Answers:
1. So now the person has to be an established troll to have their thread locked? This is 100% irrelevant. Good posters get threads locked all the time for making a poor one etc. Fully debunked
2. Most obviously the intent of the blog posted is riling people up. To have half a paragraph stating speculative and negative things about MS and Nintendo, then like 3 full paragraphs praising Sony and over-inflating facts and defending them? Any written comment structured in such a manner obviously is intended to irk the 2 short-changed groups and excite and garner praise or acceptance from the 1 group which they defend and praise
3. Smiley's need to be present for locks now? Absolutely not. Not sure why you're going back to stuff like this. A junk topic is a junk topic. All the extra annoying stuff doesn't help of course, but doesn't somehow legitimize the subject matter at hand.
4. Calling out individuals is one of many reasons why a thread or post may be modded or deleted. But it's far from the only reason. As mentioned lots of threads or locked or posts deleted for a plethora of other reasons rather then calling out a single individual poster
5. See answer #3
6. See answer #3
7. Just because an OP may drop some bomb and then bail on his thread, that doesn't mean the intent and source material for the thread is any more legitimate. How many times do we see some poster create a thread, or do a long post, only then to disappear while all the posts that follow are people riled up and fighting back and forth, commenting how the OP himself has disappeared due to the lack of integrity in the argument originally? It happens a lot here.
8. A link to a blog was provided with no facts. That is just as "strong" of a basis for creating a thread as if the OP himself just typed up the blog material himself. Had the OP just written that diatribe, would it have been locked? What's it matter if the speculative opinion is of the OP or a speculative opinion he finds elsewhere? Unless the link is to back up a fact (to which there are no facts in the OP) a link doesn't help
9. No additional input to the article was added other then the OP just dropping the bomb. Granted though I think it should be telling the majority of the posters who posted right after the article was put up all seemed to realize how un-substantial the entire thread was, and were expecting a quick lock. You legitimizing it in any way shape or form was not expected to say the least, hence why I feel the need to present a structured counter-argument regarding your decision with all due respectNow Playing: Final Fantasy XIII-2
