Default IGN Ausie 2008 system showdown

    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/939/939461p1.html

    Score Breakdowns in 2008
Have a look at the figures of games that scored 4.0 or lower on IGN in 2008:

    22 games, or 9.95% on Xbox 360
    13 games, or 7.88% on PS3
64 games, or 23.88% on Wii
Things don't improve for the Wii as we move to the other end of the scale, either. Whether you're looking at games that scored 7.5 or higher, 8.5 or higher or 9.0 or higher, the Wii figures are embarrassing next to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Both those consoles performed well, and in terms of raw numbers they're quite close, with the Xbox 360 having more games that scored 7.5 or over before being taken over by the PS3 in the 8.5 or over category. The PS3 is still clearly ahead of the Xbox 360 in overall quality, however, and this is really born out in the percentage figures, with fully half of games reviewed on the system in 2008 rating 7.5 or higher. By the time we hit the 9.0 or higher bracket, the Wii has been whittled down to under 2%, the 360 sits on just under 5%, while the PS3 is up over 10%.
    The Overall Winner

So that's the final installment of our Console Showdown. With another victory under its belt, it's clear that the system that offered the best selection of games in 2008 was the PlayStation 3.
Waiting for the day when sales or graphics or reviews matter again.

Whom is that person that puts the PS3 Tsunami games comment in their sig line? That person needs to read this. The crazy thing about that sig line is that it started off with 2006 (PS3 didn't even launch 'til around mid-Nov. 2006). People didn't even say anything about a Tsunami of PS3 game for 2006. Some people just don't care about truth.

"Personally, I think some developers are doing that to PS3 games on purpose to show support for MS easier development environment. 3rd party developers can't be THAT stupid to just be close to parity in games versus the over the top visuals the 1st and 2nd party PS3 games are providing (up to 1080/60fps)."

There is a lot of bitterness in this thread. Enjoy your games, everything is going to be okay.

of course it matters. I guess what they want to say is that even though PS3 has less games they are of better quality. I guess there is less junk on PS3 then on Xbox 360. I tend to agree because a lot of X360 games are really crappy. One would think that Microsoft is more for quantity then quality and thus it has lower standards for it system then sony does.

They're counting the % of games, not the number of games?

There are plenty of games I have enjoyed which haven't been favored by critics. Reviews are subjective, but it's nice to have a wider selections of choices.

It's a way to minimize the fact that the PS3 has less games.

For the article as to which is better, and honestly I have no clue the number of games released for each console, just want to point out the stupidity of trying to say one console is better because of the % of higher rated games over the # of higher rated games.

for a hardcore gamer like yourself who has to have everything owning both systems make sense. i am moreof casual gamer who only play few selected titles and i do not care much about the rest. that is one. and two. i refuse to pay for service which should be free and swap consoles every two years for a new one because the old one just had RROD. This might change now with the jasper motherboard.

i firmly believe that ps3 is far more powerful and therefore
most of ps3 games will look far better on ps3 then x360. we already can see this with some titles. next one will be killzone which nothing on x360 comes even close.

i believe that psn will be getting better and better. sony constantly improves online system and even if you feel now that xbl is still better a year from now might be the other way around.

i believe that once sony cuts prices on ps3 more people will jump ps3 ship and in the long run sony will outsell microsoft.

the more popular bluray is the more popular ps3 becomes as well.

i guess it just hurt when your x360 does not get best reviews and so called failure actually scores better.

I agree. The best console should be rated on it's technical merits (after all we are talking about the console/box itself), but the PS3 still wins there, too. Oh well...
