I thought SF4 had a higher debut?? Well, it will at least have a higher debut in America...I don't see tekken even cracking the top 10.

EDIT: Also Onslaught, I was talking about japan only. It certainly is anyone's game in the rest of the world, but I see strong sales in Japan, and Europe boosting Sony to the number 1 console position(nothing'll beat DS).

Nope, 84K or so. I'm not sure why are you underestimating Tekken's popularity when the series never had a low point in shipped or sell through on consoles and arcade revenue since 1996.

It's true that Tekken is most popular in Europe (in fact two thirds of lifetime sales came from there), but the series has had higher lifetime sales worldwide than SF and that's with one SKU per home version. 27 million units VS. 30 million to be precise (Capcom and Namco shipped figures)

Both T3 and T5 shipped 6 million units each, and T6 has already shipped more units worldwide than SFIV (2.5 million vs. 2 million). 2 million is also what Namco shipped with SCIV.

Shipped does not equal sales.

Doesnt seem to hurt MS when they report number of consoles shipped each year vs. Sony's consoles sold

It does for publishers and hardware manufacturers, and I've always believed they're far more reliable figures than sell through ones we get. Some sell through are just estimates and not every single retailer is accounted such as smaller chains etc (RRS and hdinred recently pointed out that the NPD simply estimates Wal Mart figures). They can't ship units if retailers don't demand it, for example Capcom shipped 4 million RE5's initially and then added another 1 million within 3 months. If you look at NPD, Enterbrain etc totals, the total figure will likely fall short of 5 million. In some cases of overshipping, we usually see reduction in price quicker than usual.

However, I think you got the point I was conveying though. I'm aware of the difference between sell through and shipped. The former serves as fuel for fanboy flames

Tekken has been better to Namco's bottom line than SF has been to Capcom's. RE on the other hand managed to ship 40 million units since 1996, making it Capcom's main cash cow. I think it surpassed it in 2005.

Most companies report "shipped" vs sold because thats what they were paid for by the retailer. MS doesnt get a penny when Gamestop sells a 360, because that 360 was already paid for months ago when it was bought and shipped to Gamestop. As far as their accounting goes, its alot easier for them to track what they ship to a retailer and get paid for, then to hear back from the retailer on how many they purchased and then moved on to a customer.

Sony has no reasonable way of knowing how many of their consoles are getting sold to the end users. They are not plugged into the sales databases of retailers. Their numbers are shipped plus voodoo estimation. Certainly nothing to brag about.

They're not voodoo estimation. They compile data from industry-trusted sources such as Chart Track, NPD, Media Create, etc. These companies' data are, in turn, a combination of, in fact, retailer database numbers and statistical analysis (for those retailers, like Wal-Mart, that don't provide their numbers). They're solid data used by analysts, executives, and fanboy warriors the world over. They are not "unreasonable."

Of course, it's not as accurate as shipped numbers. It can't be, by definition, but it's measuring a statistic that is more interesting.

Yes, unlike VGChartzzz and other places like that, Media Create, etc. actually use real analysis and statistics to "come up" with their numbers, and if you have taken any stats classes you would know that using a bigger sample size gives you a smaller room for error.

Don't be a dillweed. That was not the part to which I objected.

I was under the impression I paled in comparison to the other giants here in terms of birthing memes, but I'm always happy to help.
