Not trying to be rude or anything, but why do you all care so much about how the systems sell over in Japan? Unless you live there or have stock in Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo who cares how your favorite system is selling over there. Why dont you brag about the sales in the U.S. or better yet, not worry about sales figures and play the system you like the most cus you enjoy it! I own all 3 systems and think they all have there pluses. My kids love the wii and the ps3, while I mostly play the Xbox360. Considering the economy, they seem to be all 3 selling well!

More sales = more games for us?

I really think it's more to GTA 4 than anything. LBP might have helped a bit, but I think when Last Remnant comes out it will change again. It's nice a next-gen console beat the Wii again, that doesn't happen too often.

The game didn't really exist in Japan till a week or so before the release. I didn't see any ads on TV or on the train till about a week before the release. In store, I only see displays of the GT5 bundle, which is why console sales are what they are for this week. I personally blame Sony for not ensuring that games made in other regions are properly supported. Given the nature and consumerism in Japan, I think Sackboy product lines like dolls, cell straps, etc. would be popular here. But it's much more that Sony Japan doesn't care that the game wasn't made here, rather than the consumers caring. I'd have to really check back, but I don't remember much if any talk about LBP at TGS, mostly home and other JP developed/focused titles.

If you want a particular game to come out on your console, then the console needs to be selling well in that particular territory. Games are developed in 3 localities, Europe, US and Japan. If you like Japanese style games and your console isn't doing well there, you won't see many games for that console. Thus, DS being the end all be all in Japan, most game makers put their resources into DS games over other consoles.

Why oh why would they not support their big titles? It's like they want them to fail. It's just stupid.

I'd really attribute it to the new 80 gigs.

Not necessarily the LBP bundle/GT5 bundle

Then it's option A. LBP is not getting to the consumer.

We'll have to see of word of mouth will spread its wings.

The LBP ads ran for about a week and a half on the JR trains in Tokyo, they ran ads for Afrika for about 3 months or more. And for those who don't know what Afrika is:

You take pictures of animals in a virtual game. That got FAAAAAAAAAAR more advertisement than Sackboy, which by anyone's count is a stupid move.

In stores, and it probably won't get much better than what it is. GT5 is the focus now and probably for a while.

I saw more of this:
New Bundle

Than any other PS3 product/display in store. Same price as the normal bundles. And we're coming up on the Last Remnant release in two weeks.

I enjoy JRPG's. The better the PS3 sells over there the greater the chance more JRPG's will be produced. So how a system sells in one part of the world can affect what types of games get released WW.

Dunno about you, but two controllers and the game for 6,980¥ more ($70ish) isn't really all that special in terms of a bundle deal. Good deal, just not really special.
