Default Amazon Meters: Madden NFL 09

Amazon has introduced a new feature were it meters the ratios of multi-platform games. Right now they're only doing Madden 09. Here's where it gets interesting.

Code:
360: 39% *
PS3: 32% *
Wii: 13%
PS2: 11%
PSP: 4%
DS: 1%
http://www.amazon.com/Madden-NFL-09/...pd_zg_lm_lp_pl

How does a system with nearly twice the install base in the US get only 7% more of the cross-platform sales? August NPDs should tell the whole story but this is a good hint to how things will shake down.

Anyone still want to claim the PS3 is a glorified Blu-ray player or that games do not sell on the PS3?

* - includes 20th Anniversary Edition.

Amazon sales weigh heavily into NPD results.

Wow, weve had some great troll thread today. Not sure how this proves anything. But when more multiplatgames are out why dont we compare them all and not just a few select here and there.

Last month's NPDs proved that PS3 games are selling at a higher tie ratio than 360 games. This is just continuing the trend (on one of the highest selling titles of the year).

Let's see if the mods will make him the sacrificial lamb to make up for closing D's thread. If not, biz as usual.

What's wrong with Amazon? This is not "Top Sellers" data which is scientifically inaccurate for basing sales on. This is an exact ratio of how titles are selling on each system.

Quote:
Meters compare sales of groups of items or just single items. The percentages shown are based on all sales for each group of item(s).

For example, let's say we want to compare two groups of products: Group A and Group B. Group A had 10 sales and Group B had 40 sales, with the total sales of both groups adding up to 50 sales. To figure out how Group A's sales compare to Group B's sales, we would figure out the percentage of total sales for each group. Group A's percentage would be 10 (Group A's sales) divided by 50 (total sales of both groups), which equals 20%; Group B's percentage would be 40 (Group B's sales) divided by 50 (total sales of both groups), or 80%.

Our data is updated hourly to allow you to track changes over time.
Besides, we already have NPD data proving PS3 games sell at a higher tie ratio than 360 games.

Npd numbers on what 2 titles what does that prove once again. All it proves is EA titles are more popular with PS owners. So another words PS love games that never change and are released every year, tough crowd to please.

Because Amazon #'s didn't float during the format war, all of a sudden they matter for console smackdown? Come on.

Incorrect. Using Amazon's "Top Sellers" list didn't float during the format war. The "Top Sellers" list is computed much differently and the algorithm has been documented by forum users. It's basically a snapshot of how well a product sold during a single slice of time, not cumulatively.

"Meters" is a ratio of cumulative sales, therefore an exact benchmark of how two platforms sell in relation to one another on Amazon.

You can't compare the two.

The NPDs come out in a week, we'll see then, won't we? Not saying it will be the same split, but I am wiling to wager the tie ratio on Madden will be better on the PS3.
