You're right. Blu-ray isn't a long term advantage for the PS3, because Xbox 3, or 4, or 5 might have digital downloads or "games streaming".
It's pretty clear from today's reality, that cd's were not a long term advantage for the PS1 because PS3 has blu-ray.
Pretty silly way of twisting data around to form arguments.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword
Back Burner: LBP2, LA Noire
Just finished: Anno 2070 (PC)
Home Theater: Panasonic PT-ae4000u, 110" Carada Brilliant White Screen, PS3

Very good points in the article, but digital distribution still has some issues which I think it will take some time until they are resolved completely and offer fully the same benefits of a tangible format

It depends. If PS5 and the 3rd 360 simply come without physical games - then I guess the gamers just went digital as they have little choice.
I'm surprised that many people argue for DD though. It's not great for consumers. Say goodbye to inexpensive used games, or reselling your own games.
All games will be bought new, and cannot be resold.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

Digital Distribution is a TERRIBLE thing, when will people get it through their HEADS?! No Lossless, no 1080p. Your game choices are made for you, no more imports. Whose right is it to decide what you want to play or watch?! NO ONE'S, not the right's holders here, not the one's overseas.
HD DVD, the best in extras!
My HD DVD list: "Clerks 2", "The World's Fastest Indian", "The Thing", "V For Vendetta", "Enter the Dragon" and "Casablanca".
My Blu-ray list: "Warriors Of Heaven and Earth", "Curse Of the Golden Flower", "Kung Fu Hustle", Weeds Season 2, "Rent", "Tekkonkinkreet",
"Lives Of Others", "Black Book", "Hairspray", "Kingdom Of Heaven: Director's Cut", Sanctuary S1, "Chungking Express", "Videodrome", "Contact", "Paprika". -

Corrected it for you. As of course, with all the studios that Sony own, there are a huge number of studios producign PS3 titles, whilst only a couple producing 360 exclusives (and most of them on PC anyway). The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, for one thing, have reached graphical parity, on multiplatform titles, while software exclusivity, formerly a great differentiator, is becoming more and more rare on the 360.
??Sounds like you are assuming all PSN is like XBL. Funny, because I have digital titles that are 1080p, at least one of them has lossles audio, and guess what I can download from any regional PSN store... -

For now Gunter. You think it won't get bigger and something won't happen?
I did forget the most important thing. I don't think DD can happen just because I think retailers like EBGames and others won't allow it. If they don't get a cut in the games being sold, why would they sell the systems, which make them terribly little already.HD DVD, the best in extras!

I assume you work for Gamestop then... Most people think DD is a great thing. I can understand those that trade games, but I buy games and keep them. The cheaper price, and convinence of not changing discs to play far outweighs the few $$ trade-in price.
Since when has EB and Gamestop told Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft what they can and can't do? Online distribution will kill game stores, like it's already killed music stores and killing video rental stores. It's called progress.
You backed HD DVD, whilst it was clear from the outset it was a doomed format. I think you are backing another lame horse again here, in the fight against DD.Last edited by Gunter; 08-30-2008 at 09:49 AM.
