Default Music Game smackdown: GH4 To Require Subscripton On PS3/Wii?

You can either take this as smackdown for 360 versus the PS3, or smackdown for Rock Band versus Guitar Hero, but here's a little bit of information that's troubling.

First, the source, which is IGN pasting an Activision press release about Guitar Hero IV:

SOURCE

Now for the relevant part which is tucked away right at the bottom of the press release:

Quote:
*Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription.
There are many ways to interpret that, but I guess the most popular until it's all confirmed by Activision is that they may be considering implementing their own individual subscription service to allow gamers to play online. There might be other interpretations, but there ya' go... Wii and PS3 players may possibly have to cough up dough in order to play Guitar Hero 4 online with their friends.

After hearing about the cross compatibility of instruments I was considering picking up GH4. After hearing this... maybe not, after all.

Actually it might not be so bad, if all they're saying is that online gaming is only available on those three systems, but may require a subscription depending on which console you're using.

If that's the intended message of the statement, then it's business as usual.

I totally take that to be referring to live. The way I read that, it's basically saying "You'll need a PS3, 360, or wii to play this game online. You may need an additional subscription (Live)"

Make sure to read it closely - I think it's just poorly written.

now that makes sense. I gotta go with you on this one. Probably written for the 360's case, subscription required.
