Default Play PS3 games while listening to streaming Vidzone movies

Quote:
Worried that PS3’s streaming Vidzone music videos were going to get in the way of your games? SCEE president David Reeves is here to quell the fear.

“People said, ‘I wish I could listen to the music, and see it as well,’” Reeves told us, speaking at Games Convention in Leipzig last week.

“Because you can listen to it – you don’t have to see the music video – and play your game at the same time. And that to them was very important.”

The Vidzone service – which allows streaming of music videos to all PS3 users in Europe for free – is to launch early next year. A download service for similar content is scheduled to hit towards the end of 2009.
I am really not sure how I feel about this. Sounds cool but I don't think too many people will use it.

Sounds pretty stupid to me. Why would you want to do that? Why not just stream the music? Should use a whole lot less bandwidth and processing power to leave out the video feed, since you aren't going to watch it anyway.

Eh, just another option - which we never shun around here right?

This could actually be kind of a cool option if it's on the right type of game. If you can just put a small box up at the top right corner or something on a game like pixeljunk monsters or superstardust -- not a bad deal.

Can't say I'd use it a lot - but it's not bad to have.

Thumbs up

Wow! most of you guys posting here are clueless. Yes this is a very big deal, but not for us, but for the younger among us.

He said that you don't have to watch the video while playing, you can play the game and listen to the video. Yeah you say who cares?

The kids of today go on youtube and play videos all day long while playing their game systems, its the easiest way to listen to what you want when you want.

My son is 15 and all his friends do this. And its just not the boys, (I know when we were younger it was mostly men/boys that played games) But even the young girls of today play the shit out of games they grew up on them.
Hell I'm 37 and my GF is 23 and she is addicted to games

This feature will be a huge benifit for The PS3 even if you guys can't see it or don't get it. Its not for you but the millions of kids that will be getting PS3's in the next couple of years. This feature is a future must have, I'm glad to see sony is keeping up with the current trends

It's downloaded music that you can listen to while you play (forget about the video guys!!!) He's saying that if you ONLY want to listen to the music WHILE gaming - you CAN. (A cool option to have besides just having a downloaded music video service - yet again for free).

What is so hard to understand?

How will this work overtop of the games? Will this just play over top of al lof the other sounds from the game or will they update the firmware to disable the in-game music?(I assume this would have to be done per-game though)
