Default The choice for FFXIII to stay intact graphically in the U.S. and possibly Europe.

(on the PS3.)
We all know about how when FFXIII comes to the U.S. and Europe it will be released simultaneously on the 360 and PS3.
My thoughts are on how the PS3 version can still stay the same graphically and not be compromised by the 360's lack of space on a DVD. I'm putting forth these ideas in case FFXIII is open world as opposed to linear like FFX where they could just do multiple discs on the 360.
It comes down to this. Given how big Carmack's "Rage" has turned out to be uncompressed I can't believe that all of the space used on the BR would just be for FMV's and not HD textures and such.
Bottom line, if this game is not to be compromised graphicswise to please Microsoft in the U.S. and Europe on the 360 I see ONE solution. I know this would piss off a lot of 20 giggers. FFXIII will have to include a mandatory install on the HDD.
Remember this is of the case scenario that FFXIII will be open world.

Microsoft will not allow mandatory use of the hard drive, as John Carmack recently complained about.
Since Microsoft will not allow Id to require the use of the hard drive for their game, Carmack said they were working to find a work-a-round, using compressed textures and streaming.

I wouldn't worry, the game is being fully developed for the PS3, the US PS3 version will be identical to the Japanese version albeit with English language, this will probably be finished and shelved to wait for the development of the 360 version, which likely be largely inferior to the PS3 version, due to the limitations of the hardware.

Something has to give, FF12 was an open almost sandbox world. They will have to make the game linear.

I'm still not sure as to the terms of the FFXIII agreement between SE and Microsoft. Do they really have to delay FFXIII in North America?

Yes, those are the terms. Development on the PS3 version for Japan will release whenever it's ready but the English version will be timed for whenever the 360 version is done.

I wonder what FFXIII and FFVersusXIII could have looked like or what they could've added if Square Enix decided to use more than 4 SPEs with the Crystal Tools engine.

This should be interesting, though. This will be a match between the entire X360 against part of the PS3's capabilities.

I really hope the Lossless stays in in general. This is a game we will NEVER see a Lossless soundtrack to so getting it in game is a Godsend.
Avs this is the game that MS has probably been dreaming of for a while getting so I could see them doing it when they said no to Carmack. If they don't and it's open world it will be compromised on the PS3 as well because I can see MS pitching a shitfit if the 360 version looks worse, especially if it's noticeably so.
edit: Well Informed what's it going to take for me to help you to watch more of the original product instead of the shitty American remakes on Blu-ray?

What would you be talking about specifically?

You have "The Eye" with Jessica Alba for one. You've got to see the original, the Chinese version. It's so good.

I don't think that's available on Blu-ray, but if you look at my list again you will see the original Japanese DVD version (and The Eye 2).

7x DVD discs on 360.
1x Blu-Ray disc on PS3.

As for the simultanious releases, again that is also unclear, with many dodgy translations from Japanese, some of them claiming it's not true, and that the simultanious release was referring to the Euro/US PS3 release, rather than the Euro/US/PS3/360 release schedule.

I wonder how big the install will be on the ps3?

I'd say it's very likely MS will bite the bullet and let them mandatory install the game if it NEEDS it.

I'd generally predict them installing all the cutscenes and using the discs for JUST game data.

Sounds like a good strategy to me anyhow. Hell at that point you could just tell arcaders no cutscenes for you! but you can still play.

An insider at Square sent me a screen shot of the train fight scene from the early trailers rendered on the 360:

The colors are pretty vibrant, but I can see a little jagginess when I do a 400% zoom.
