Default Multiplayer Gamers Prefer Xbox 360 Releases

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=19930

Quote:
"For multiplatform games with a strong multiplayer component, it is clear that the Xbox 360 SKU has an overwhelming popularity over the PS3 SKU.

For example, the Xbox 360 version of Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 sold almost 4.5 copies for each PlayStation 3 copy sold within the first month of release, a significant difference.

Games with mass-market appeal tend to fall below the current hardware ratio line, as seen with Lego Indiana Jones and Assassin's Creed.

However, games that have a stronger root to previous Sony hardware systems -- such as Madden 2008, Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, GTA IV, and NCAA 2009 -- tend to produce the best results for the PS3 SKU.

Going forward, I continue to expect mainstream titles to outperform below the cumulative hardware ratio line, as well as brands that became popular on the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2. For games with a strong multiplayer component, however, I expect the Xbox 360 versions to continue to have dominating market shares.

Simply put, no matter how large the PS3 base may get, even if it passes the Xbox 360 years from now, I do not see how Sony's PlayStation Network could compete against Xbox Live.

Xbox Live will always have one differentiating feature that Sony will likely never be able to replicate -- at least, not in the current console cycle."

Didn't see this posted, so I thought I'd share it.

Not that it's unexpected.

That's a shockingly dumb proclamation

You've clearly (and tragically) missed the point entirely, mich... but I can help you there.

You see, while the 360 does have a much larger install base over the PS3 worldwide, the ratios we're seeing for MP games on 360 is staggeringly higher than the ratio of 360's to PS3's out there.

Attach ratio's of 1.5 would be expected... but to see attach ratios of 2.5, 3.5, and expecially 4.5 is huge.

So yeah... it's expected that the 360 will outsell the PS3 in software (and that should be expected for this whole gen) - but to outsell it this dramatically is a pretty substantial win for MS... it shows their online strategy is working.

Isn't it obvious? America's full of masochistic whiners who love to listen to tweens call them fags instead of playing in silence.

Darkfalz I hate to break it to you but with Home's game rooms you will see this break away, trust me. Those room's are just too fucking cool.
I also prefer to buy the PS3 version because...I don't know, I don't like worrying about RROD. Occasionally some games are superior as well like "Dirt" which includes Lossless. The big games selling the 360 are the MS exclusives, both 1st, 2nd and 3rd party. If it wasn't for "Mass Effect" and a few other games, including "Culdcept Saga", I'd be rid of my 360. As it stands COD2 and the best version of 3 are on it as well as Orange Box.
But for any new 3rd party stuff multiplatform I'm going PS3, especially with the idea of those Home game rooms. I can just imagine FFXIII having that as well as one for Versus. Oh and when I say I'm going PS3 on them I'll wait on "Last Remnant" for example.

I don't think many would dispute 360's obvious superiority in online services and online gaming, but superior products don't always resonate with consumers.

In this case, however, it seems pretty clear that even consumers recognize the value of Live and the superiority of Live's online environment over PSN. Maybe they just have more friends on Live, maybe they like the features better - who knows, but clearly - games with a strong competitive online component do significantly better on the Xbox 360 platform... and that's pretty indicative of Microsoft's success in their strategy and execution in that space.

Personally, the rooms just seem like a wasteful 'virtual' space that's completely unnecessary... so, I'd tend to dissagree with your speculation on this one.

Occasionally, sure... but usually, 360's got the better version(s)... but the differences are so subtle, it's really a non-issue. Even games like Virtua Fighter - which is substantially better on 360 with *far* superior anti-aliasing and an online implimentation that's missing entirely on the PS3 - don't have big enough differences to really matter all that much... for all intents and purposes, the PS3 and 360's multipat games are the same. The differences are far too minute to care about.

...maybe if PS3 had something comparable to those titles, I might own a PS3... but alas, 360's library is better - so I don't need a PS3... unless I get too tired of waiting for Blu-ray to come down in cost...

Absolutely... 360's definitely got the best versions of those.
