Leipzig: video game awardees for Best of Show in GC 2008

The Leipzig Games Convention 2008 will be seeing two more days before it finally draws to a close, but already the awards ceremony has taken place last night. We're still trying to catch up on all the news from Leipzig, but for now, report on the cream of the crop!

Spanning 29 exhibitors and a grand total of about 120 software and hardware titles, only nine awards were given out, with each category representing a gaming platform.

* PSP: Resistance: Retribution (Sony)
* PS3: LittleBigPlanet (Sony)
* 360: Mirror's Edge (Electronic Arts)
* Wii: Skate It (Electronic Arts)
* DS: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (Sega)
* PC: Spore (Electronic Arts)
* MMO: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (Electornic Arts)
* Mobile: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (Konami)
* Hardware: PlayTV (Sony)

We also hear that the attendance at this year's GC is a record. The attendance for 2008 has increased from last year's 35,000 population, to this year's 38,000.

Will LBP be the most amazing game ever...???...the suspense is killing me.

..okay...not really...LBP doesn't excite me...but who knows, it could be an awesome game or a complete waste of time.

I havent played it honestly, but Im gonna have to go with awesome, I am incredibly excited for this game. I need something different to get me back into gaming and Im hoping this is it.

Eh? Mirror's Edge gets a nod for the 360? Mirror's Edge has always been demo'd on the PS3... what gives?

Nice that a title that's also on the PS3 won best 360 game. I know Gears 2 wasn't there but Fable 2, Halo Wars and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts were.

BTW I am more excited by LBP than the release of any game ever

Its an RPG which imo pretty much rapes and shits on the entire ethos of what a Sonic game should be

Why does it have to be the most amazing game ever? It just got awarded 'best game on PS3'.

Anyway, I think the fact that the 'best Xbox 360' is a multi-platform game is kind of telling.

yeah that is a pretty bad sign for MS. without geow a multiplatform game won as best for the 360. but hey its not a shooter platform at all.

see I call it a shooter console because my favorite games on it are shooters. halo and cod4. I find it funny that people in here think the public does not think the 360 is a shooter console.

The only shooter I'll likely ever own for 360 is Gears of War 2, and not even on day one.

By the end of 2009 from March when I bought my 360 it's looking like:
Lost Odyssey - JRPG
Infinite Undiscovery - JRPG
Gears of War 2 - TPS
Star Ocean 4 - JRPG
Last Remnant - JRPG (Assuming the PS3 version is absolutely unplayable. I'll likely wait for the PS3 version before I decide.)
Too Human - WRPG (Waiting for it to be a budget title. $30 is as high as I go for this game)

3 to 5 JRPGs against one shooter... Yeah, you fail.... I too thought it was a shooter box at one time, but boy am I glad I gots the 360 now. ^_^.

I may not use it much, but I do enjoy my 360. ^_^

does not change the fact that the 360 is percieve as a shooter console. ask someone about the 360 and I doubt they will say lost oddyseey or any other jrpg. and unlike you jrpgs did not appeal to me on the 360. enchanted arms sucked, blue dragon sucked and lo was alright. I would play halo any day over those medicore jrpgs. so for me its a shooter console since that is where i used to play the most when i had live.
