Default PS3's success might convince Valve to support the platform down the road

http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=195936

Quote:
Valve doesn't do PS3. The company's co-founder Gabe Newell isn't a fan, and hasn't been afraid to say so. But Valve's Doug Lombardi has told CVG today that PS3 support could be on the cards as the platforms recent success has raised some eyebrows.

"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes," said Lombardi.

"So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they've got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously."

He went on: "They're in the race now, so we've got to re-evaluate that for what it is."
Looks like Gabe will be eating some crow. Don't see why not, he eats everything else in sight

You're thread title is a complete lie.

Quote:
But what are the chances of Valve opening its arms to PS3 and showing it some Left 4 Dead love? "50-50 right now," said Lombardi.

"There's zero chance of it happening this year. It's something that's being talked about right now as the game is gaining popularity and looking like it's going to be a hit."

Yeah WTF, even the title of the article is "LGC: "50-50" chance of Left 4 Dead PS3"

Plus if anything it wouldn't be PS3's success that forces valve, it would be EA.

The thread title isn't untrue but it may be somewhat misleading. Gabe Newell is certainly looking like he's got a little egg on his face now that the PS3 is selling well. And what's rather amusing, is that he claims the PS3 is a disaster yet his platform of choice (PC) sells considerably less software...

But not his software.

Steam is highly successful, and the numbers his company produces on the platform is nothing to scoff at.

I honestly don't care if they support or don't support the PS3. It will be the end of these console's life by the time Episode 3 comes out. By then I'll have bought new consoles, and a two or three new PC's.

Somewhat misleading? Thread title is PS3s Success forces Valve to support the platform

In the article they say there is a 50/50 chance. That means that they have not been forced to do anything, all they are doing is considering supporting the PS3. I considered going to SUNY Albany for college, does that mean I went to SUNY Albany (I didn't)

Exactly. "forces" was obviously the misleading term. Valve is considering PS3 support, this a year after lard-ass Gabe Newell said the console is a disaster, a waste of time and money, and that Sony should do a do-over.

Its not a misleading term, its a total lie. They have not been forced to do anything. All they said was "we are thinking about it". Look at it this way:

Iraq has weapons of mass destruction = lie
Iraq may have weapons of mass destruction = misleading

What is the difference? One says that there is no other option, the other says there are more ways to go, but we want you to think one way. Once you claim something that is not true with no way to say "No, we said possibly" you are lying.

I agree the thread title is definitely misleading and it wouldn't have been so bad if the title was phrased as a question instead. Still interesting news nonetheless and if the PS3 continues to consistently outsell the 360 then yes, they will pretty much forced to support it. Whether it's EA or their stockholder's or just common sense that forces them is irrelevent but in the end they will most definitely do so.

Actually I think the reason they do not is I believe his entire staff for all projects is under 50 (if my behind the scenes of Left for Dead memory is correct)

Gabe might have 5 or 15 working on certain projects depending on the stage.

I'm not going to dig to confirm that though, i'd just imagine that a bigger team would be needed to work with the ps3.

Likely why the hand off to EA.
