Did Ninja Gaiden 2 live up to expectations/hype?

Aside from the insane difficulty and framerate slowdown, the game is really fun Graphics could be improved as they look a bit outdated at times and sound is so so. It's not worth $60 (not even $40), but a great game when you can find it cheap (like I did, $20 at blockbuster) - thats probably the most I'd pay.

I see a ton of used copies already traded in and I would imagine that would be the result of 1) Unfair difficulty that 90% of the people who play this game wont even be able to finish it once, so replaying it is not even an option 2) Mission mode breaking the game and hasnt been fixed.

Doubt I would ever finish it though due to the difficulty. I just dont have 5939 hours to devote to this kind of game. I dont know what Team Ninja was thinking, but they really should have included an easier difficulty setting so that this game would attract more casual gamers. The core of the game is so fun, but the cheapness in the later parts just steer away most gamers and get you second guessing whether a game this ridiculously difficult is worth the hair pulling and constant swearing just to play.

I do believe, (like many have already said) that this game is mainly for the hardcore gamer and not so much the casual gamer. And as a result, has really hurt its sales.

metacritic has it at 81, sales about 700k
i'd say it's far from a flop, but alot of other people around here consider 8.5 rating and over 1m sales something different.

Definitely wasnt a flop but still could have been quite a bit better as it was rushed out to get out before MGS4. Its surprising that the games value has dropped so fast, and it hasnt even been out for 3 months! Even the blockbusters here are selling new copies for $35.

The series was never a huge seller. I don't think any version of Ninja Gaiden broke 1M so NG2 is just status quo. Not a flop, not a system seller.

I'd say the war behind closed doors had more to do with it. That's the writing on the wall imo.

I liked it alot, but it was way too easy compared to the 1st. Mainly cuz of the Scythe weapon. Upgraded to level 3 you could just mash out YYYYYYYY and take out tons of guys without breaking a sweat.

I really should try replaying it w/ a different weapon that requires skill lol

Yeah, there are parts of the game I liked, but taking damage because the camera sucks is flat out unfair and utterly last gen, and possibly even the last gen before that. Improve the camera and I'll tear up shit in that game... (Too Human's camera is, for proof of consistency, also the reason I'm not buying it... at least not at full price)

No that statement was in regards to your "rushed out the door" term and it's likely the cause of slow down etc.
