Default No PS3 price cut at Leipzig

Quote:
Sony Computer Entertainment has stated that it will not be announcing a hardware price cut at this week's Leipzig Games Convention.

"It's not going to happen," said Nick Caplin, spokesperson for Sony to Reuters.

"If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed," he added.

Sony is the only format holder hosting a press conference at Games Convention this year, with the event taking place on Wednesday ahead of the opening to the public on Thursday.
So who's gonna blink first?

they denied the last one even after several retailers already showed the new price, so who knows.

I wouldn't expect a price cut announcement at Leipzig, but getting closer to the holiday season, it's all potentially up in the air.

My gut feeling however is that a price cut is unlikely for the remainder of the year. Sony's trying to keep things under control finance-wise, and a move like that is just asking for a bleeding of money.

I personally think that they are just trying to work more on getting great software out to help the sales of the system grow and then they wouldn't necessarily have to adjust the price of the system. If they are going to get some new "exclusive" stuff out there than that should help keep the demand for the system at a reasonable level and they won't have to lover the cost of the system. Didn't they actually lower the cost of the overall manufacturing costs as well? If they did then they should actually be making a few dollars on each one and not to mention that they still are selling PS2s and PSPs to help augment the loss form the PS3.

I totally agree with you, but I say we'll see a LBP bundle at $399 to combat MS.

Considering mainly all they did was switch out HDD's? And that an 80GB might actually be cheaper than a 40GB? Nope, I wouldn't call that a price reduction.

Not really. It's swapping out the 40gb HDD in the $400 for an 80gb, keeping the price the same.

Basically, it's a $40 price cut from the bundle. Yes, you lose the media slots and BC ... but you gain a cooler, quieter processor.

Actually the 40GB I picked up for my sis and her fiance as a wedding gift came with saxis.. But I still don't consider this any form of price reduction.

Fair enough. But I'm sure some would rather the new processor (I would). So, it depends what you want, I suppose.

Increasing the hd by 40gb would have a negligible increase in cost. So Sony might still have some room to play w/ price.
